People forgetting DDG’s first season at United. Man could barely hit the ground quick enough. Put it on the floor and it was a problem.
What helped him was the acrobatic highlight reel saves.
But IMO, Onana wasn’t a necessary buy. His shot stopping isn’t that much better than Henderson’s. If we got him on a free, cool. But for £50M, I think that money is better spent on a proper midfielder that can control the ball and has LEGS to run. MacAllister would have been a great addition.
I think in reality we needed to change DDG this summer.. He needed a new contract, was the highest paid player at the club and was in decline. Whether Onana was the right option is a different conversation. We needed a steady keeper who was commanding and good with the ball at his feet. Spectacular saves would be a bonus. Just dont chuck that damn ball in your own net.
