I think going through Serie A against out of form AC Milan and inconsistent Inter is easier than going through Feyenoord, Leverkusen and then United/Juve.

I think they're just running out of gas and out of ideas. Poor form has been masked for a while now with Rashford's goals and De Gea saves but Liverpool loss exposed it.
Playing Wout upfront and as a 10 is supposed to be done once in a while to mix things up, it's not sustainable for long periods of time. If Varane/Martinez go down team could completely collapse.
