How did Pepe become a 70 Million Pound player?

What exactly is he good at? Gervinho at least could actually beat his man, dribble and run with the ball. This guy plays like he has 2 left feet.

Players from mainland Europe who rely on an relative athletic advantage to dominate, are helter-skelter rather the controlled, run with the ball too far away from their body and who do not know how to generally protect the ball are not well suited to the EPL. Because in the EPL those physical advantages disappear and the ball and the player come under constant fast, physical pressure. The same player can demolish teams in France, Italy, Portugal etc but that's not enough to dominate EPL teams.
