Arteta wants them to work defensively. When he says 100% commitment he means both sides of the ball. He was saying this would be his philosophy if he became a manager when he was still a player. When he says nonnegotiables that is one of the things. Ozil wasn't doing that in his prime and he isn't going to start now. If someone like Auba can bust his ass defensively when he is played out of position then so can Ozil, but it isn't in his nature. Arsenal fans know all this but are overlooking it because they want the good old Wenger ball days. And the reason why Arsenal have been in this mess over the past few seasons is because of Wenger ball.
The game has change, and the silly stat of yards covered in a game that people like to use in defence of Ozil means phuck all, if you aren't really putting in defensive work.
