I’m still not worked out if Southgate tells them to keep it simple and defensive until they get the first goal. Or it’s just confidence. But so much more forward passing/ risk taking once England got a goal
I feel like Southgate keeps stressing no mistakes, and they play with fear. It only dissipates when they score. If they fall behind l, there play will stay like that.

You aren't going to win the world cup that way. Take your chances and push.

Yeah I was wondering that too... The game definitely opened all the way up after the first goal which is clearly in England's favor
