I think you're mistaking my point. I don't care about lebron the dunker. I'm saying the name lebron would bring more excitement. People see those pregame dunks and that's all he'd have to do. Jordan lost some. Nique lost some. They missed some dunks, but it was pure exciting watching two megastars battle vs two nobody's
It'd like boxing. Everyone wants to see paq vs mayweather. While two no names might be the better fight, they are still the undercard because less people care. What I'm saying is these other dunk contest are undercards. Yes they are entertaining. Yes the dunkers are good (not giving any of those dunks legendary status).
But we wanna see the top go at it. Ok no lebron. Maybe 1 or 2 all stars. Blake just did it. Vince was legendary. Howard was memorable. It just makes for a Better show for fans. Which is us. Which is what it's supposed to be about
i dont know about this "us fans" talk.
real fans knew who every last participant was. i'll give the newer fans a pass on james white, but thats it. and aside from white, the only dude that doesnt get tick that was in the competition was jeremi evans - the defending slam dunk champion.
the thing that gets me is that alot of people(not you) have the audacity to criticize the quality of the dunks, then turn around and clamor for inferior dunkers like lebron in the same breath. that sir is d*ck-riding.
lets be real, a slam dunk competition full of today's biggest stars would be wack. blake griffin's win was bullchit(another reason why i dont want lebron to enter). dwight was cool but overrated. the thing with those two is that the announcers were hyping their chit up to be some next level chit. and it worked. on the flipside, all they do to the young competitors is tear them down before they even dunk.
you cant compare today's stars to alot of the older eras in terms of dunking. dr j, dominique, mike.....these dudes were amongst the elite dunkers of their era. you cant say that about today's top-tier players. theres teams in the nba like the nuggets, knicks & raptors that each have like 4 dunkers on their rosters alone that are better than just about all of the stars. i do agree that some of the early '00s guys like vince & t-mac shouldve did more than one competition. thats what made the 2000 contest into arguably the goat. superstars that are actually contest dunkers. im sure you can agree with that. but right now we dont have that. there arent really any great dunkers that just-so-happen to be superstars.
how would you feel if they at least used all-star caliber players that could dunk the ball? like bring back josh smith(he put on some weight tho), j.r. smith, etc?
