his films don't do it for me for some reason..i've seen a few now
He's probably one of the more interesting filmmakers to read from a critical evaluation perspective. His work tends to be polarizing. There is a general consensus (which I agree with) that his later work (80's onward) is flawed. Obviously his health played a role in explaining some of that.
With that said, I'm a huge fan of his earlier work, up to Zabriskie Point (his film made in America, not his best but fascinating). If his films didn't look so damn good, I would certainly not be a fan. His typical subject matter (ennui of the upper class) holds little interest and sometimes (not always, Monica Vitti was such a great actress) his sympathies fail me. But his visuals are always so engaging to me. From the starkness of the island in L'avventura, the brutal but still attractive EUR neighborhood in L'eclisse, the park in Blow-Up, etc.

Criterion Collection needs to upgrade The Testament of Dr Mabuse to blu-ray and also get their hands on Dr Mabuse before Kino gets it and drops a so-so release
There are several I want...But I can't buy DVDsThinking about getting some Eclipse sets
because they're SD or cuz of something else
I guess I'll forever hold out hope that they'll get an upgrade. And if not most of them are on Hulu+
