It's funny you mention this because just today I ran into an old classmate from middle school. She's half Nigerian and she was talking about how she wanted to hit up Lagos so badly this December, she hadn't been since like 2011. She also mentioned that one of our mutual friends went to Lagos this past December and had a ball. Was talking to another friend from college who finally went to Nigeria this past December by herself (stayed with friends) and she said the 3 weeks were crazy.

It's like in the past couple years West Africa (Ghana and Nigeria especially) have been the places to be. Even people who aren't even directly related have been flocking en masse. Crazy to think that some years back people weren't even claiming to be Nigerian and the like, now everyone wants to be out on the scene.

On a serious note, I wonder what drove this renewed interest in African travel, particularly in December :jbhmm:

My theory is the Nigerians and Ghanaians that studied abroad (like myself) always made it a habit to come home for Christmas. For us, it was like a 2-3 week reunion to catch up with old friends. From there, word spread back to the diaspora and the social circles surrounding it. From there, it became a thing.

Honestly, I think continent wide, December is just the move. My boy down in Nairobi told me December is the best time to come down as well. I'm hearing South Africa in December is also a scene.

So many experiences I want, so little time :mjcry:

I just came back from my grandfather's funeral in Ghana a few days ago. And man i can't tell you the amount of AAs and Carribeans travelling in groups i've already encountered particularly this year. And it's not even December yet when shyt really gets down. :russ:

The problem is that despite all these travellers coming, the tourism industry clearly need a lot of work when it comes to quality and maintenance.

I can see Africa is increasingly becoming the wave for black diaspora travellers beyond existing African communities. It's a slow process but it's building up year by year.

Ghana has done a faaaaar better job than Nigeria as far as tourism. The "tourism" in Nigeria is mainly through personal networks i.e. you have a friend who's well established on ground and you tag along with them.

It definitely is growing. I think SA can't quite offer what a West African experience in Ghana or Nigeria can.

But Nigerian leaders ain't tryna invest in the infrastructure for this :francis:

Yeah I heard Nigerian tourism is mainly family/friend network based. My grandmother on my mom's side is from there and regularly sees her remaining relatives back in Kwara state. She tells me foreigners she encounters are mostly staying with locals/friends they connected with abroad. In Ghana it's more like half and half with traveller's with some going for airbnb/hotels and others staying with locals they connected with from travel programs abroad.

I hopefully have time get to travel to Nigeria(and Senegal) this year if I have time after my grad school application travels are done.

Seem like US spring is Rainy Season in most of Africa?

For the most part, I know is much of the coastal West Africa has a rainy season from April - August with the heaviest rain in June and July. In Nairobi I think their heaviest rainy season is in April. For SA, it's Sep-Nov or so.

I do HVAC in FL so my plan to is save until Dec. esp. if I don't go to Colombia for San Pacho. If I can save at least $10k but shooting for twenty, I want to temp. move to the Continent. The plan is to go to Naija, get something for AT MOST $4800 which is #1.7M a year and using that as a pivot point to travel the continent.

As far north as Senegal, all the way to SA for a heavy-hitting chubby chaser such as myself

:shaq:

I really want to go to the Kongo (Kinshasa) but I know it's not for the weak but I'm Haitian so I'm 'bout that action.
:demonic:

Any recommendation or suggestions would be highly appreciated and if not, I WILL make a thread.

Fam. If you come to Naija I can get you a dope spot for 1.7M a year easy. I have hooked people up with nice 1 bedrooms for as little as 800k. The 3 Bedroom spot I stay in now with my wife and child is 1.5M.
Funny enough I run an HVAC company with my dad out here. Its easy money. This place is hot af. Everybody has an AC.

Where would this be located? This seems too pricey for Lekki. Would did be in like Surulere or Yaba? I actually need to start prepping for my pivot back to Nigeria very soon.

I'm guessing you in Texas? Regardless, I can send you my Whatsapp and we can KIT until I clear it. I know I have go to ATL to apply for the visa of Naija. A multiple entry 2 year Will run me about $160. Oh of anyone have any ideas about a road trip on West Africa, I'm all ears. I thought about lekki but I want to be closer to the action. I'm not sure tourist: I got no issue hopping into the trenches and getting me a ratchet chick. Any neighborhood you recommend? I want to travel and country and attend damn near all the traditional festivals especially if I can pay two years rent up front and still have enough to diddy bop around the Continent. I'm using Jiji, OLx and Nigeria property centre as my go-to sites but I wanna see that offers that have Offline. Dímelo.

I did go HVAC school in Texas and was in San Francisco for a bit but I moved back to Lagos like 5 years ago. Live in Lagos now fully settled, wife, kid, the works. Im already plugged in heavy.
Yeah its about $160 for the visa but if you can spare a little extra these guys will do all the leg work for you to get the visa. its worth it.
Nigeria Visa and Passport: Application, Requirements. Apply for Nigerian Visas & Passports Online.
You wont have to even go to the embassy. They'll do the whole visa process by mail.

Lekki would actually be a cool spot. You get the best of both worlds out there. Its connected to high end and low end of things.
The f****ery you're gonna get into out here man once chicks hear that accent. :takedat:
