Westcoast brehs...

Flying out to my cousin's wedding at the end of next month in Oakland.

But flights are cheaper going flying into San Francisco. Shorter too since flights there are no non-stop flights going into Oakland.

I'm only staying for the weekend. How is the drive from Francisco airport into Oakland? Should I fly into Oakland instead?

i went in 2015. maybe i had the wrong concept of bali, but i didn't love it. i guess i was thinking more eat pray love...the remote spiritual, buddhist type bali, when it's really Australia's Cancun, and to that point, even making the adjustment for that, the beaches, at least in the SE where most tourists visit, weren't all that. but it wasn't all bad, great food, coffee, and people.
Did you venture out and check out Ubud or the east coast? I heard those areas are less touristy.

What's the best country as a 1st timer visiting Africa?

I got a homegirl who recently just moved back to Accra so I've been thinking of hitting Ghana up or should it be Lagos? or both?

Hmmmmm....I'd say Accra just because you're homegirl is there and can probably direct you a bit better.

Accra and Lagos are pretty similar but Lagos can be mad hectic no lie (this is as a Nigerian that has lived in Lagos and been to Accra).

@FireDwaneCasey went to Lagos solo dolo like last year and his thread did numbers. Said he had an amazing time there.

South Africa would probably be the easiest transition from a comfort standpoint but I do think when people want to experience what they see as "African" culture, they are more so talking about West African culture. If that's the case, then Accra and Lagos are kind of the hubs for the Anglo-sphere.

As a Nigerian it pains me to say this but Accra has capitalized way better on it's tourism sector than Lagos has. Nairobi (Kenya) is also another option. I do think most people there go for safaris though. FYI been to all the aforementioned countries.

If you plan on going solo dolo then you gotta make sure you keep on your Ps and Qs but also be sure your outgoing. One thing about vacationing in most African cities (that I've visited) is that if you really want to get into the culture you'll have to put yourself out there. Since the tourism sectors aren't as well fleshed out you'll have to go out of your way to get into the local feel. But once you do, I imagine your trip will feel more unique.

Isn’t the flight from Lagos to Accra like a hour?

I had a blast in Lagos and I knew no one until I landed . With Uber in most African cities it’s never been easier to get around.

I just copped a local sim bought data and I was good to go, need to get to the market just punch it in.

Only thing I didn’t like about Nigeria is the visa process sucks and the hotels are much more expensive than in most African countries. I do agree there isn’t a lot of touristy things to do but it’s a bustling place

Example I stayed at The Marriott Times Square for cheaper than I did for a night at Eko hotel

Yep. Lagos to Accra and vice versa is about an hour. It's like an NYC to DC flight. That Lagos to Accra move is GOAT for a weekend trip.

Yep. Western level amenities are often more expensive in Nigeria than in the West itself. Same thing I saw in Kenya as well. However, "domestic" goods and services are mad cheap. This is why I say SA is probably the best value country on the continent. Same amenities as the Western world, but with the competitive African prices.

Ehhh...from my time in Jo'Burg nothing out of the norm happened. There is a little bit more violent crime than Nigeria, but if you know how to move in Lagos you should be fine in Jo'Burg.

The big thing about Jo'Burg is you really gotta be door to door with your movements.

South africa would be easiest to digest but its like pretty much being in europe or the states at times.

Rwanda and Ghana are good.

Appreciate it bruh, Most likely looking to fly dolo, I'm somewhat turned off by usual touristy stuff anyway so I'm cool with reaching out and making friends.

I was definitely up in @FireDwaneCasey thread, partly which made me really consider Western Africa.
