Went a long time ago by myself, it's great, especially since you're in driving distance of Barranquilla and Santa Marta, so you can experience 3 different cities. I highly recommend renting a car and splitting time between all 3.
Traveled to LA and did a solo trip last weekend, and it wasn’t bad at all. I’d do it again, plus I like having time to myself in a new city.
My next trip will be living in NY for the summer, and then possibly a cruise for my birthday in November before I get my passport and officially start traveling.
I’ve also been thinking on backpacking Europe as a graduation gift to myself around May 2019. Any other suggestions besides Europe that I should consider?

I highly recommend South East Asia (SEA) for backpacking during the summer. Much cheaper than Europe and you can hit a lot of countries. It's actually quite popular with European kids, especially Brits.
Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Malaysia and Indonesia. Great fun.

I’d say the most akward encounters are from the Vietnamese and Chinese people I’ve come across. Staring shamelessly, weird comments about my hair, grabbing their purses or moving it to the other side when I pass them on the sidewalk. This was mostly in South Australia where they see less black people. Melbourne seems to be a bit more diverse...seen a lot of Africans, especially in the outer suburbs. It’s been refreshing to see some color here in Melbourne. South Australia was on some other shyt.
They got dudes selling tickets at las ramblas that main strip but I didn't trust em so I got my tickets online. Had the eticket on my Apple wallet, shyt was real easy
