i'll try to post some topics later, but i'm more of reactionary person so it'll take me a second to figure out something i want to talk about. but for starters i guess i can post this wiki article i was reading yesterday about dadaism and surrealism...

Dada - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

My only experience in you related to Dada was the sneakers. It would be cool if you could put me up on some examples and describe the symbolism. I did buy a painting from an artist in Haiti that I think might classify as Dada, it was about the human brain, and there were like a million random thoughts coming out of it, I wish I still had it, I lost it about 3 years ago :snoop: That painting was cool as f*ck

Also, I remember a SOHH thread where the thread was about self-employed people and one guy told some cool stories about his life as a musician. I notice your "improvisation is freedom." Was that you?

it might have been me. i think i'm the only working musician that's ever been on these forums so more than likely it was me...

Improvisation is definitely freedom. A musician not being able to improve is like a basketball player not being able to dunk. I play the alto sax, it is so awesome to hear a jam, find the key/scale, get the :obama: face, and start flowin' away. I can't imagine how it feels to not be able to get the key by ear, them nikkaz must feel :to: inside. I like playing calypso, soft jazz, kompa, samba, but my favorite to freestyle off of is bossa nova (brazilian jazz). I'll put you up on some of my favorite tracks:

^^^probably the most well known example

^^^Sergio Mendes

^^^Bola Sete (:whew:)

Most cats smoke up to reggae, I smoke up to bossa nova :jawalrus:

Hmm.., let's see if I qualify:

- Been to 22 countries
- Self employed since 25
- Went to a top 5 school for my field
- F*cked every race and major ethnicity, and have f*cked on 4 continents
- Speaks 4 languages fluently, 6 semi-fluently, and basics in 8 languages
- Have been in life or death situations
- Have been in the company of billionaires/millionaires
- Could of have played Division II ball (I know it's weak, but wanted to show I am somewhat athletic :manny:)
- Have eaten stuff that would make you cringe
- I can play two instruments well, and know the basics for two more

Primary Interest: women :datazz:

Secondary Interest: anything to kick the time

For me to complete my journey to the pinnacle of what is a Renaissance man, I would like to formulate some new theories that affect physics or math, but I don't think that'll happen :to:

In seriousness, in response to the OP, the most important thing to being a "Renaissance Man" or a "most interesting man in the world" type dude is gain financial independence. Unfortunately, most of us weren't born into rich families, so that means we need to hustle first. Get that education, so you're not a dummy, then get on your grind. Then once you got that cash flow, you need to travel. From traveling, and learning about new cultures, and smashing women from different places, and being put onto different concepts, you will develop into a "renaissance man", or a person with remarkable experiences and viewpoints on life.

Damn that's what I'm talking about. Care to elaborate about your situation and how you were afforded these opportunities? I made this thread because I feel like I'm on my way. Got a lot of struggle ahead of me but it's in my control.

I've been working toward the self-employed thing for a while and finally quit my day job in July. I have a lot of goals I want to tackle and one of the biggest reasons I went into business for myself is so that I can do things on my terms and travel when I want. I'm not ballin yet but I make more than I did in my day job. So far it's the best thing I could have done. I got my degree already and my day job gave me the opportunity to see a lot of things, but only drove me to want to set out on my own so that I can see more. Plus I got to tackle a lot of things on the job that make me marketable and will help down the road.

But I'm at a point right now where I want to fully embrace myself, learn about life and the world around me, see the world and have adventures. Working on Spanish now. You're going to have to give some language learning tips.

dada is more of the theoretical philosophy , surrealism (in the visual arts and writing realm) was influenced by that theory. as far as artists that would be considered surrealists, my favorite one is spain's joan miro. but i think that's because i've come into contact with a decent amount of his work plus one of my friends from spain informed me about him. they even have a couple of his works hanging in the new orleans museum of modern art, so i've seen some face to face...

ah ok, from what I've read on the wiki page, it was more about random expression, so that's why i thought the painting I bought might qualify. I'll look up Joan Miro, thanks for putting me up on game :ehh:

you can think of it that way, sort of. but there's more to the philosophy. it's to reject conventional ideas of expression, beauty, aesthetics, etc in an attempt to escape typical problems we face in society. it's like you're appealing to the senses instead of what is traditionally viewed as "valuable"...

Mostly trial and error. I don't like putting my business out there like that, but let it suffice to say that I started off doing mortgages, and then flipped the money I made brokering loans into other things. The key is find something where you can do constant flips with your startup/reup money. Small restaurant, cars, used technology, brand name gear are all good. buy in bulk, get a discount, and grind.

I've been working toward the self-employed thing for a while and finally quit my day job in July. I have a lot of goals I want to tackle and one of the biggest reasons I went into business for myself is so that I can do things on my terms and travel when I want. Props to getting your degree. Secondary education (whether the street or in college) is essential to being a "renaissance man". Don't quit your day job without a grip to startup, unless you feel you can hustle. Bare minimum IMHO to go the self-employed route is $10K, unless you feel you can live out of a car for a few months :sadcam:

Women, women, women my G. Best teachers around. Nothing helps you to remember like associating learning a language with sex. :datazz: If you want to learn Spanish, pick a country you want to go to, and go to an online dating website for that country. Make some penpals. Start chatting with them, but in their own language. Use Google translate when they write to you, and use it in reverse, to learn how to express yourself in their language. After you finish, try to read the conversation and translate it mentally without Google translate assistance. Guarantee you within 3 months, even if the pronounciation is f*cked up, you will have picked up most of the basics. In the meanwhile, save some guap to go to where you want to go. By the time you ready to go, you got a stable of chicks waiting for you that you've pretty much prescreened and know a little, a rudimentary knowledge of the language, and cash to go to party and hang out over there :smugdraper: I learned this method in Panama, and has been money for me ever since. Within 6 months I am speaking conversationally no problem. Anh muon yeu em dem nay :takedat:

^^^this the philosophy that is the origin of the yin and yang. Peace, oneness, etc. I think that feng shui and Falun Gong have it's origins in Taoism. it's really f*cked up in China now because they're persecuting these Falun Gong practitioners as rabble rousers and rebels. :snoop: they'd rather you be drinking and smoking and making the politburo rich :what: :snoop: In Southeast Asian cultures, they try to find balance in everything. Even when you sit at a table to eat, they position the order of the diners to achieve the most balance. It was cool to sit in on a Falun Gong session, and surreal, because at any time police could come busting in and arrest everybody there as being seditious.

Well I feel like I could add some things to this thread but I'll just choose one..

I would like more brothers to learn how and to play Chess.

I know, "Its boring" and it just a game but its a thinking game and playing chess really helped me become a more patient person and taught me how to always think 2-3 steps ahead and to consider the outcome of my actions.

I love the game but I only have like 2-3 friends that play, whenever I try to put some brothers on to it they just :heh: and act like they too "cool" to play...

Offering to teach a female how to play chess is a lowkey ace in the hole too. Most of them don't know how to play and are intrigued by a brother that plays chess so its usually a win-win.

Just a thought :manny:

i use to play some, but i was never that good at it. i would always be able to force a stalemate but never win. i probably just needed to play more though. i didn't play that much but the people i lived with in college would play often. i think i decided not to play that much because i wouldn't have been able to devote the proper amount of time to it so i could become really good...

I feel you on that bruh. I can play but I never really got good at it to the point where I learned strategies and whatnot, outside of just plotting out my moves and improvising. It's a great game and there's something about matching wits with the person across from you.

I can def see how it can help you in your regular life too.
