Unnerving Official Trailer for ‘Sator’ Promises a One-of-a-Kind Horror Movie Experience This February

The film, written/directed/edited and produced by Graham, was acquired by 1091 Pictures, and we’ve learned today that they’re bringing it to US digital on February 9, 2021.

“Secluded in a desolate forest home to little more than the decaying remnants of the past, a broken family is further torn apart by a mysterious death. Adam, guided by a pervasive sense of dread, hunts for answers only to learn that they are not alone; an insidious presence by the name of Sator has been observing his family, subtly influencing all of them for years in an attempt to claim them.”

Sator is quite personal to me, says Graham. “It delves into my family’s dark history with mental illness surrounding a supernatural entity, and uses home video footage to create an interwoven piece between documentary and fiction.”

For years generations of his family, including his grandmother, have claimed to make contact with a mysterious presence by the name of Sator, and the film features her own haunting accounts of contact.

A24 has another one via Hulu streaming:
Hulu Acquires A24’s Horror Movie ‘False Positive’ for Streaming Premiere in 2021

Described as a contemporary take on Rosemary’s Baby, we had learned last year that Ilana Glazer (“Broad City,” pictured above) co-wrote and will star in a horror movie titled False Positive for A24, but it’s been a while since we’ve heard a peep about that project. Turns out, it’s now been acquired by Hulu, set to debut sometime next year as a Hulu Original movie.

Glazer co-wrote the script with John Lee, who directed False Positive.

Justin Theroux, Gretchen Mol, Sophia Bush, Josh Hamilton and Pierce Brosnanalso star.

In the film, “After several attempts of trying and failing to get pregnant, Lucy (Glazer) and Adrian (Theroux) finally find their dream fertility doctor in the illustrious Dr. Hindle (Brosnan). But after becoming pregnant with a healthy baby girl, Lucy begins to notice something sinister through Hindle’s gleaming charm, and she sets out to uncover the unsettling truth about him, and her own “birth story.” As if getting pregnant weren’t complicated enough…”

Facts. That’s the new modern horror movie theme - we had found footage a decade ago, then paranormal/ghosts, prior to it was slashers and now it’s mental illnesses/ psychological disturbances.

Horror movies inspired by fairy tales
Suspiria & 9 Other Terrifying Horror Movies Inspired By Fairy Tales

Movies inspired by fairy tales do not always get the Disney treatment. In fact, quite a few horror movies are based on dark and twisted fairy tales that lack happy endings or silver linings. From "The Little Mermaid" to "Hansel and Gretel" to "The Little Red Riding Hood," these creepy (but beloved) stories are pure nightmare fuel for all ages when transformed by the right director.

Dead End was a dark one. It managed to take a predictable path and throw in so much crazy, that you never got bored. I mean this in the best way...every character and plot point feels like a trope but then behaves in such a bizarre manner that the whole thing takes on an uncanny feeling. I think it's hard as hell to do "uncanny" without it coming off forced. But this one nails it even before the horror starts with a Jingle Bells sing along.

Everyone's behavior is just a smidge off. They all do well but Lin Shaye is the queen of this, it's why I love damn near everything she does.. even the Midnight Man. Anyway, Dead End gets a ton of authentic performances that are crucial because so much occurs off screen. I actually think it would have hurt the movie to have budget to show us more. Nothing is shown; it all relies on timing, cuts and reactions...but it landed for me.

:salute::salute::salute:for Lin Shaye and the madness.

I'm glad you liked the movie since I was the one that recommended it. This movie really doesn't show a lot... it plays more on what you think is about to happen and your imagination which is a good thing when done right... and they did it perfectly. They also nailed the creepy atmosphere in this movie. I also agree with you about the budget. If the film makers of this movie would have had more money they probably would have done too much and shown too much. They would have made the movie bigger than it need to be. Sometime when you're financially forced to keep things simple and cut the fat... it makes things better.

I also agree with you about Lin Shaye. Her and the father(Ray Wise) did great job of bringing the madness.

How did you like scene where Lin Shaye had that *itch* in her head? Straight Madness! :pachaha:

I'm just waiting for the Haunted House horror to take over for a while. I know the easy guess for what COVID lockdowns will bring us is more zombie and plague apocalypse stuff; but I'm rooting for people being stuck in isolation to go full blast writing isolated in a haunted house scripts :banderas:

I like the fact that it’s filmed as a partial documentary with the first hand accounts meshed into the film.

Yeah, that could be a really nice tool for the writers/director to play with for some impact. I'm a sucker for good perspective flips and plays.

Appreciate the suggestion for sure fam and definitely co-sign you on the atmosphere. You're right about trimming the fat too, something as simple as not showing us the bodies but then having Lin Shaye sketch out what she saw once she lost it...that's ten times more effective to me. I also liked when she was waving to people in the woods that no one else could see.

That "itch" scene was definitely a damned trip :mjlol:!

Has anyone noticed that if you start watching a movie on Amazon Prime streaming with your subscription, that’s in the “free category” , if you stop watching it or pause the movie and go back to watching, and repeat the start - stop cycle a few times - Amazon Prime will charge you for it??

I’ve been watching the same movie today but in between doing things I had to stop and r periodically- this last time I go back to finish watching the last 30 mins of the movie; It says $3.99 - this keeps happening on movies that I watch
:mjtf:
So AP is penalizing their customer for not being able to sit through a movie for the straight 2 hours and taking breaks in between? How is a movie that was free at 11:00 am, convert to $3.99 or $4.99 at 5pm?? Or coverts to a pay-on demand bc I stopped and went back to watching a few times??
:mjtf:
And is it a coincidence that it waits until the movie is on the last 30 mins - on a “cliffhanger” so the AP PTB is on that “make the customer pay $4.99 to see the end of the movie”- like how are they tracking this??

-to be continued-

I looked it up
Amazon Prime Video is confusing its customers with bait-and-switch tactics, survey shows

“Even worse, the firm suggests that “it may be Amazon’s strategy to use Prime Video as a barker channel to upsell consumers to rent or buy the titles they want to see.”

In other words, the interface could very well be intentionally set up to prey upon your impulses at exactly the moment when you are most vulnerable. Let’s face it—how else are you going to save this pitiful Saturday night?

:gucci:
I feel like AP video is lowkey insulting with this -calling me and people that do this “losers”
:beli:“Prey upon vulnerabilities “ wtf. That’s f’ed up. What are they trying to say?
:deadrose:
I knew I wasn’t bugging:

10 Horror Movie Sets On Which Actors Were Nearly Killed

Ghostland is an indie horror movie directed by Pascal Laugier and shot in Canada. In the shooting, actress Taylor Hickson, who plays the role of young Vera, got severely injured when a glass door shattered, causing Hickson to fall through the door and glass shards. The actress was facially disfigured and had to be rushed to the hospital, where she received 70 stitches.

The Omen is an American-British 1976 supernatural horror movie. Although it received mixed reviews from critics, it was a definitive commercial success, becoming one of the year's highest-grossing movies. Unfortunately, the movie was surrounded by deaths. From Gregory Peck's son's suicide to a car accident that left a crewmember decapitated. But, while in production, Peck almost met a sad destiny himself when his plane got struck by lightning. Peck's wasn't the only plane to get struck by lightning; producer Harvey Bernhard also experienced this scare.

Leatherface's weapon was a chainsaw, and Hansen's prop was actually a real, running saw. Yes, you read this correctly. The actor had a real chainsaw to shoot the scenes and threaten the actors, which could have ended in an enormous tragedy. Luckily, no one died, but Hansen got close to it when shooting the last scene when he throws the chainsaw at the teenagers.
