I thought Wes Craven had the bones of what could have been a really entertaining teen comedy with the way he handled the relationships between the students and how it navigated the different social strata within the high school but alas this was supposed to be a horror movie and on the horror tip Wes dropped the ball pretty badly with this movie.
Almost finished watching it but agreed.... the writing is a big problem, for one . Sheesh ... ... some of those lines are horrible. Next, The lead actor, Bugs, the wooden acting and monotone delivery.

This movie is Scream and Freddie from Nightmare , if Scream took itself too seriously and if Nightmare on elm street didn't take itself seriously enough

I finally got around to the Pet Sematary remake and I can't tell if I'm not being fair to it because I'm too familiar with the original. I don't think it's bad as a stand alone, still a dope concept and entertaining plot but the element of surprise is gone so the impact from the original was way bigger on me (also I was young watching the classic version). This version's ending just fell flat for me by comparison. The cat was a more imposing presence than anything else that came back :stopitslime:

I could see this creeping the hell out of my nieces and nephews that aren't as familiar with the original though. I also wonder what the director's cut might look like. They probably coulda used one or two more scenes to flesh out the trauma from Jud's and Rachel's pasts. Or they coulda used the extra time to flesh out the Wendigo backstory...or they coulda done more with the ghost warnings which were some of my favorite bits in the original only to feel worthless in this one. One thing I will say, Lithgow killed it as Jud, I really appreciated his performance and the father started off a little light but by the time things heated up he was also killing it in his role.

Idk, I feel like I'm not being fair to it fam. I could picture this ish being effective on newcomers. May have to sit down with the youngins and play it back to see how it hits 'em. Anyway, I've got a cold and am relaxing so it's on to the next horror since I've been letting the backlog fill up too much. I Trapped the Devil is next.

The Pet Sematary concept just sucked. The new joint sucked and the OG sucks as an adult when you realize how dumb everything that took place was lol.

Yup lol. It’s a mess. No one seems to know what movie they’re in.

Eli Roth’s history of horror podcast has been good. But the interview they did with Bryan Fuller was incredible. I could listen to that dude talk about horror all damn day. He just has a very specific way of looking at horror and the way he talks intelligently about even Friday the 13th gave me a newfound respect for that series.

Just listening to him gave me so much insight as to why Hannibal was as good as it was

I Trapped the Devil was pretty damned good to me. I don't wanna give away too much, it's fairly short and to the point anyway. A couple rolls up to a friend's crib who is showing signs of delusion and he has locked someone in his basement that he claims is the devil. The rest is the couple (and audience) trying to figure out if it's really the devil back there or if the deranged friend is the real danger to them. It's all tension building to a concluding pay off, kinda how I'd categorize "They look like people." But this one is self contained to a house, so very limited setting. It worked for me because of the mystery and tension in every conversation, plus some really cool shots and direction overall with a pretty short run time. I'd be curious to hear some of your reactions.
