"Peeping Tom" 1960 considered one of the original slashers, pretty tame today, but an interesting, understated watch, though I found it a chore to get through at points. So many earlier movies lacked pacing, or seem to struggle to find the kind of motion that more modern film does. Also, you are watching these kinds of movies, the classics, and it seems like you have seen it all before, because, of course, you have, it's many imitators, but still can feel sort of predictable.

Finished The Babysitter.

I can see what they were going for I guess in concept but the writing is just poor. It's like if Michael Bay tried to make a meta 80s campy slasher film.

It's okay in parts but overall it just falls flat. It's going for a throw back 80s vibe in modern times but it's just very crude and tasteless.

You never really care for the characters much and it goes for style over substance.

It's not the worst movie ever or anything and it's well made and has a few entertaining scenes but overall it's just sort of there struggling to find an identity. It's trying so hard to be a cult classic that it comes off desperate.

5/10

That being said I think Netflix has started stepping it up with the production quality of their films and I like that they pushed out a few horror films in October.

Hopefully next year they do the same and just have some better scripts to choose from.

Urban Legend 2: Final Cut is a movie I was anticipating highly as a 15 year old, I believe I saw it for my birthday, at the height of slashers 90's resurgence, and I remember liking it, but it wasn't as sharp as the 1998 original. Over the years it's rarely mentioned, and I hadn't seen it since, maybe once, it's actually a solid slasher, with a more than admirable mix of Hitchcock homage and urban legend slayings, routinely bad lines and suffers from overdoing the 90's formula of crazed, debonair killer, Party of 5 casting, and horrible writing, but it was a fun easy watch, which is a good thing for a B level horror movie.

Checked Better Watch Out and went in blind off posts in this thread. That helped the early twist to catch me. Overall, not half bad for a more comedic almost satirical joint (the Home Alone comparisons coming to mind but also Dennis the Menace and every other troublemaker archetype). I didn't love it, but as long as you suspend disbelief and go into it as a tongue-in-cheek "horror experience" it's not half bad.

"Slasher" Season 2 on Netflix is enjoyable to me, 4 episodes or so in, maybe my favorite genre of horror. If it was toned down, it would be even better, as it goes over the top frequently, but I like it better than the first season, which I only got 5 in, because I mistakenly read who the killer was, which is like 60% of my enjoyment with slashers.
