I mean, do us horror heads even watch horror for scares? I haven’t had a jumpscare since I was probably a kid. :heh:
i just want to see muthafukkas DIE!!!!!

(on screen of course)
horror ( & sci-fi) has some of the best messages of any genres (veiled or otherwise)
Plus as a kid , I was mesmorized by the effects of horror movies.
Trying to figure out how they set up the death scenes was a hobby of mine
I wanted to be an FX artist until i got to college.

Basically, now,
after so many movies
i just watch for the story , pacing, the FX and the kills
as long as i am entertained i am good.

While we have our own ways in which we take in this form of art, I generally want to be creeped out when I finish a horror film. It’s probably the main reason as to why I absolutely prefer to watch them at night, to allow myself to get fully immersed into the material.

I hardly get scared anymore because like most aficionados in here, I’m desensitized with a lot of it now. But in the rare times it does happen, I hold those projects close to the chest because they’re the ones that affected me on such emotional level.

Being creeped out and scared are different things tho. I get creeped out for certain films.

Horror movie don’t scare me, I watch for the tension mostly. If an horror man can make me at least feel a little uneasy it’s a great horror to me.
This is pretty much where I'm at. When I say a horror movie has to have "good scares," I'm not saying it has to scare people. But we can all recognize a horror movie's highpoints. They have scenes or a collection of scenes that build up the tension, and the "scare" is when it's released. That would be a good kill, a major reveal, a jump scare, or something like that. The key is ratcheting up the tension to a worthwhile payoff.

A lot of my favorite movies stack the tension and only release it in a handful of big moments. Hereditary doesn't have jump scares, but it builds the hell out of tension and then releases it in really violent or creepy ways.
