I LIVE IN A CARDBOARD BOX!
This has been one of the best years for horror in quite a long time.

The Black Phone
Terrifier 2
X
Barbarian
Watcher
Nope
Scream
Violent Night
Smile
Beast

I still need to see Bones and All, Bodies Bodies Bodies, The Cursed, and the new Hellraiser.

I know some years you'll get at least two or three big horror movies, but this year has been a gorge fest if you love this genre, and I didn't even mention the TV shows. :wow:

I finally watched Bodies, Bodies, Bodies. I didn't really enjoy it. It's more thriller-comedy than horror, and I don't think it ever really moves into scary or even creepy territory. It's more like an Agatha Christie mystery with Gen Z kids acting dumb.

I actually think that's a cool idea as a concept. But it was tough to stick with unlikeable characters that only got worse as the movie went on. The deaths were all pretty lame, a necessity to keep the mystery alive (I guess). And the conclusion wasn't a "wow" moment for me. It was more like a dragged-out finale with an eye-roll final bit.

Maybe I'd have more love for it in a year with less great horror out. But this is barely mid in my book.

I haven't really been watching too much horror since Halloween.

I've been watching Seinfeld because I liked Curb and never really watched the series before.

I finished One Punch Man Season 1 which was great. Started season 2 and had to take a break.

I watched The Killing Field or whatever on Netflix. I got bored during the 3rd episode and started watching Wednesday. I'm loving Wednesday.

Disagree.

This year wasn’t the year for horror movie connoisseurs or legitimate watchers/investors of the genre historically -

this year horror movies were made for pop culture fans or the casual viewers for mainstream consumption or crossover value. Due to the number of wide releases and themes. Unimpressed by it all quite honestly. Appears that the genre this year has become a victim of mass consumption or parody. I don’t know if they’re trying to make up for lost time or the attempts at crossover appeal, over saturation with other genres whether it’s comedy/horror, drama/thriller, psychological, - there was a lot of horror- lite. Nothing stuck for me.

I used to complain that we didn’t have enough coming out but what did get released was for true horror fans, now they have volume but it doesn’t have the same impact. This is general audience branded horror - not feeling the vibe and it’s predictable halfway through or there’s a twist gimmick. They need to go back to the formula from early 2000s-2018.

At least 2020/21 - there were the social media or social commentary horror movies which were new concepts.

2022 is literally marketed for trailers. It’s getting to the point where the reaction channels and recaps of the movies are more interesting than the movies themselves. 🥺😒

Being a “gorge-fest” as you state is part of the problem - too much quantity, reduction in quality. All of these directors, production companies, screenwriters, putting their hand in the pot whereas before, we had dedicated members of the genre putting in work.

I watched Daybreakers the other night - it’s amazing. Never appreciated it back then but the visual quality is >>>>

Disney Channel wouldn’t dare have something like this on today. Theme song is so early 2000s though. :mjlol:

:deadrose:
This is exactly what I mean in my comment above - early 2000s was goat. This wouldn’t even be a thought for releasing today, everything is sanitized or agenda-ed up Today. Nowadays they have to do whole thinkpieces on how scarily inappropriate RL Stine series are and the affect on our minds as we watched them as children/ teens/ young adults 😭

On vacation in Cozumel this week and part of next. Too many bars and clubs to hit and not enough time. May catch the raiders game tonight at a sports bar if they are not watching that World cup stuff. not much going on horror wise so I will catch up on my christmas horror stuff. When I got a chance. Saw this article pop up and its surprisingly spot on

AMC Entertainment just announced layoffs across the board because of losses. That’s worrisome because they’re responsible for Shudder which has been a great resource for horror (Resurrection is one of my favorite horrors of the year). Shudder’s been platforming a lot of great horror for a long time. So I hope they’re not hit too hard.
