Simple.well wtf you want from a movie breh? shyt was puff to me.
A good origin story mixed with some horror, pacing and writing. Visually was nice but missed the mark for me. I was looking forward to this for more than a year.

Facts. I give it a 7/10 only for not believing that the “teenage girls” all looked over the age of 35 and I had to suspend common sense as to why cops didn’t arrive and start an investigation after the first kill. Nevermind the fact that 3 girls are murdered, the administration’s only advice is to go to sleep instead of closing the school - but nope - sleep in their own rooms as if their 3 best friends aren’t getting killed off
Very interesting. I totally underrated this movie. Simon Barrett did You’re Next? Wow- now that I think about I can picture the comparisons from the tone of the movie, writing and production. I would have watched this sooner had I known this was also his creation. (This is around the time from December- February that I clear out my first and second string watchlist backlogs and this was one of those). Enjoyed it. Was looking for a decent slasher. When they said the one girl had won an essay contest for a college scholarship, I was confused as hell. But definitely co-sign yall on enjoying seance. I love that I thought I had the situation figured out but there were some twists I missed even though the threads were there for me to catch. I'd kinda slept on the writers because of the convenient splitting up dynamic but everything else seemed really well put together...then I looked up the writer/director and no surprise. This guy (Simon Barrett) wrote You're Next, The Empty Wake segment of VHS 94, and the latest Blair Witch movie...I liked all three of those a lot.
And in looking that up I discovered something I REALLY wasn't expecting. Simon Barrett's next project is an American remake of I Saw the Devil with the original writer attached as well (Park Hoon Jung). I Saw the Devil is CRAZY!!! It's peak Korean Revenge genre, which I generally don't think American creators should even attempt to tackle...but this guy, Barrett might be able to pull it off.
I Saw The Devil is one of my favorite movies period. Be interesting to see what Simon Barrett does with it because he showed with Seance that he is a pretty good director (it was his first time directing a movie) and he has already shown how good he is as a writer. When they said the one girl had won an essay contest for a college scholarship, I was confused as hell. @storyteller i think that I confused “old boy” with I Saw the Devil. I think that I would have remembered this movie - I might need to watch this tonight off the description.
“I Saw the Devil is a shockingly violent and stunningly accomplished tale of murder and revenge. The embodiment of pure evil, Kyung-chul is a dangerous psychopath who kills for pleasure.
On a freezing, snowy night, his latest victim is the beautiful Juyeon, daughter of a retired police chief and pregnant fiancée of elite special agent Soo-hyun. Obsessed with revenge, Soo-hyun is determined to track down the murderer, even if doing so means becoming a monster himself. And when he finds Kyung-chul, turning him in to the authorities is the last thing on his mind, as the lines between good and evil fall away in this diabolically twisted game of cat and mouse.”

Oh noooo!!!! I hope you feel better!!Movie marathoning while I’m isolating from a positive test (at least when fatigue doesn’t put me to sleep).
First up…the 2021 Slumber Party Massacre and it genuinely made me laugh by flipping the exploitation tropes of the 80’s on their head. My only complaint is that most kills were pretty generic. But the sense of humor was great and there were a ton of Easter eggs…even the big reveal is a bit of an Easter egg in its own right. It was smart not to overstay its welcome and put a clever twist on a classic’s formula.
