Thanks man - I've gathered from doing a little research and the replies to my initial post that it pretty much differs from state to state.

As far as guns in the UK - from my understanding you can only obtain a shotgun or rifle license but you have to prove to the police that you have good reason to own one - basically you have to be white, upper class and live in a rural location. But even that will probably change now because some crazy Trump worshipping cac went on a shooting spree not too long ago. You used to be able to get a license for handguns decades ago but there was a mass shooting at a school in Scotland (Dunblane - the UK's version of Sandy Hook) so after that they were scrapped altogether.

Just got mine a few months ago too

they are also saying they will get rid of the requirement to notify police if you are carrying at traffic stops

The thing I hate about this is responsible, caring gun owners are all going to get lumped in with the irresponsible losers.

To be honest, if the state's that currently or previously required permits and classes, if they held any sort of merit or weight, they would go after those who issued and granted them.

The way I see it, a lot more legal carrying blacks are going to get shot by trigger happy and scared cops that are going to use the "he had a gun...." Excuse. If we/they are lucky we will be able to defend ourselves in court, posthumously we won't be able to defend ourselves at all. It's just going to be a dead black man at a traffic stop that had a gun.

It's one thing if the lawyer your/my family hires can say "he went to this range on this date and took the course, he registered for his permit on this date, paid all the fees, he was legal, he was responsible, he was certified. There's absolutely no reason he should have been shot."
