Copped my shyt yesterday it was the last one in Best Buy and I got the 3 free months on Netflix. Quick question has anyone been able to explore your local drive where you have movies then put the address in Chrome and successfully stream movies? I can do it but I only get audio.

you can drag the movie on the Chrome tab

or Ctrl + O and pick the file

can the movie be played back fine with either of those ways on your pc?

so your pc is hardwired and you think you have to be connected to wifi for the Chromecast?

all you need is to connect once to it with a wireless device like a phone, tablet or laptop then once its in your network your wired pc can access it

also Chromecast extension for Chrome

Yeah....I've already activated the chromecast and accessed netflix and youtube on it through my phone, but when I try on my pc I get this.

you got me there

once you connect to the Chromecast with a wireless device you should have been able to access it from any thing connected into the same network

only thing I could find was this on Chromecast support page
If you have a dual band router, ensure that it is not in isolation mode. This may require a small change in your Wi-Fi router settings. Please visit our AP Isolation mode page for help troubleshooting this issue.

Yeah....I'm confused. I have my internet connection plugged straight into the router and then I have an ethernet cord going from there to my pc, but when I check my network connections on my pc it doesn't show that I'm connected to my wireless network. It's like I somehow have two separate connections. Everything I have that is wireless connects to my access point but my pc is showing something different.

Oh well...I'll buy an adapter I suppose.

so its on a different network, I dont think that would be the problem

what router are you using? is it dual band?

seems that dual band router and Chromecast dont work well, you will have to connect all devices to the same band

you can try connecting all the PC's to the same HomeGroup or Network and see if that works
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Network and Sharing Center

you might want to get in contact with Chromecast support

My router is old. Linksys WRT54G. I don't think it's dual band. I sent a message to tech help, but I think it's something to do with me not being connected to the same network somehow. I don't know what I could change though.

same thing happened to me recently with plex and xbmc

my server is hardwired but i couldnt stream anything on my wireless devices

like Porque said you gotta connect them to the same homegroup cause for whatever reason your hardwired and wireless devices are on separate networks

yeah just simplify it by going to the laptop and connecting to its homegroup

Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\HomeGroup\View and print your homegroup password on Win 7

and just use that on the desktop pc

Phone to Chromecast app streams pics and video, but can't be released yet

Google's $35 Chromecast fared well in our review, but something that could make it even more useful is the ability to stream pictures and video from mobile devices. Users have been able to work around that on PCs by entering info for locally stored files into the Chrome address bar, and now
ClockworkMod developer Koushik Dutta is showing off a solution for mobile that closes the gap with AirPlay. Demonstrated in the video after the break, his Phone to Chromecast app can fling pictures or videos stored on the phone directly to the dongle -- apparently thanks to web server software he'd already created for Android. There's no specific word on the codecs or resolutions tested, but he reports videos work at full framerate "like magic." The only bad news? The preview SDKterms mean he can't distribute the APK without written permission from Google, so this demo is as close as we're getting for now.

Lol.

I'm all fukked up. The laptop that my wife has is Windows XP and the kids computer that I have the pci network card in is windows vista. When I go to view my home network on my main pc it just says "network 2 home network"......it doesn't show my wireless network at all. This is probably something simple that is eluding me right now.

I just can't figure how I'm literally plugged right into the router and I am not using the same network as all the wireless devices that are "connected" to it.
