It was going to be me and my sibling since they’re starting grad school, but now it’s just me. My family thinks I shouldn’t move off by myself since we’re in a recession (which they say will turn into a dangerous depression with increased crime) but I need my space and privacy.tri-taylor/UIC, south loop, west town/ukrainian village are a few.
but there are a lot of things to consider. is it just you or do you need space for family etc?
are you bringing a car? it's not a necessity but obviously will depend on your particular circumstance (for instance if you had kids etc)
what is your upper limit as far as commute (im assuming youre going to be working in west loop)
also consider what kind of lifestyle you want in your area. chicago is a city of neighborhoods. very different feel going from one to another.
I am bringing a car but I honestly don’t like driving, especially not close to/in downtown. I am not opposed to taking public transportation anymore but idk how and don’t want to risk it especially if crime is supposed to increase. I hope to work 100% remote but if not, I don’t want to be more than 20mins away from work. I despise my manager and would curse him out get my dad on him plus sue if I could, so I have been looking for a new job which is tricky bc I know lots of companies (especially in tech which is what I’m trying to move into on the non tech side) are laying people off or doing hiring freezes. But I have enough money saved for at least 2 years of rent/living expenses.
I’ve looked in tri Taylor and saw some cute places but it doesn’t seem safe. I liked west town bc it seemed safe, kinda like a suburb but in the city, and it’s not too far from the West loop, but all of the cute affordable apartments seem to be taken. My sibling took too long to act on them then backed out, it sucks. We could’ve had a cute place together, now I have to lower my budget and it seems like most of the options are a bit raggedy, don’t even have in unit laundry.
Sigh
