Englewood was set to be Bronzeville status by now....until the real estate fallout in 2008 put everything on hold.
all I see is like 600k plus homes for sell in Bronzeville. The next economic collapse is going to reduce most of those prices by half. Bronzeville is not really being gentrified it's just middle class blacks moving in. and it's still grimy as hell in many areas.
That Jewel on 34th and King has a little bit of everything. The check-out lane may consist of a Black mom with her 4 kids, with 2 carts, one Asian couple, a skinny white dude, and a coupla alcoholics with 2 bottles of Magnum

I've noticed this as well. I remember 10 years ago, people thought bronzeville was gonna gentrify. that' shyt didn't happen, and people took a lot of L's when the housing market crashed. but now, they are legit building new houses and new businesses, which wasn't the case originally.
I'm in starbucks on 87th by the expressway cuz my power is out and my crib is cold, and I've seen a number of white people in here over the past couple hours which I have never seen happen before. hell, as I type this, another white businessman just came in here

That one gets lot of white business b/c once you pass 35th street going south you won't run into another starbucks right off 94 until youre damn near in Indiana lol

He did himself in by saying that. No one in public eye can come back from "thinking" about retirement. Especially in his position. Every mayor wants their own person in that job, so it was a forgone conclusion. The health issues and passing out on the side of the road was the final nail. The old white guard never fukkd with him and under the surface ppl were kinda threatening that the video "MIGHT" get leaked. Him resigning pretty much guarantees that won't happen.
You're way off base breh. Lot of people even within CTU are pissed thinking they got railroaded. Lightfoot is very popular right now. Her base of liberal whites in the northside (who actually vote) won't abandon her, she got the strike shyt off her plate and will now have labor peace for the rest of her term...she's about to announce a cpl hundred million dollars investment in south/west sides and is getting good press for the shyt she's doing on the water bills and traffic tickets. No one cares about whether the chief is black/white - b/c at the end of the day they will always serve the interests of the profession. And maybe implementing gang injunctions is a good thing - who the fuk wants to live in an environment where you feel imprisoned by gangs?

Certain places yes, but trust me even those areas will still be heavily influenced by the capitalist liberals (professional class, developers, tech etc). I actually think that Chicago's progressive wave will be relatively short lived - mostly b/c at the end of the day the city is getting so expensive that eventually many of the people will be pushed further out of city limits, not to mention that the more upscale professional liberals are very politically active. They may be on the "right" side of various issues, but they will always support ppl like Lightfoot - who may want to reform the system but will never uproot it. If you ask a Logan Square liberal what should be done about the pension crisis, they will tell you that benefits should be cut for new workers and to move towards the 401K model. They're the ones who think housing shortages are a big problem, but will fill a meeting room with all of their friends to protest against an affordable housing development in their neighborhood. THAT is the actual future of the city.
