Shawn Porter wants Danny Garcia if Keith Thurman isn’t ready by June

If Shawn Porter doesn’t secure a fight with welterweight titleholder Keith Thurman by late May or early June, he will look to go in a different direction, and that could lead to the doorstep of WBC welterweight champion Danny Garcia, his father and trainer, Kenny Porter told RingTV.com on Tuesday.
“If we can’t make this Thurman fight, hey, let’s make that Danny Garcia fight,” Kenny said in a phone interview.
The Porters expect to receive an update this week on Thurman’s status and when he may be able to resume his career. Shawn Porter (26-1-1, 16 knockouts) was scheduled to face WBA titleholder Thurman on Saturday in one of the most highly-anticipated matches of the year. When Thurman suffered whiplash in an auto accident last month, the match was canceled.
Looking to stay sharp, the Porters have scheduled a 12-round exhibition match with veteran Lanardo Tyner (30-10-2, 19 KOs) on Saturday, replete with headgear and 16-ounce gloves at their Las Vegas gym. The bout will stream live on the Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) Facebook page. Afterward, Porter will host a 30-minute Facebook video Q&A with fans.
The plan is for Porter to take a week off after the Tyner exhibition and then resume training for Thurman, Kenny said. If Thurman is unable to face Porter in the next three months or so, they will try to entice Garcia to step into the ring with them, he said.
“Late May, early June is what I’d be hoping for,” said Kenny of when he hopes they’ll face Thurman. “We don’t want to be into the summer; we don’t want to be into July. No, we got to really take a look at if he’s not healthy enough to go we have to look at fighting someone else at this point. I think we have to, at some point look, at the dynamics of sitting out that long. Even though the process that we’re doing right now is going to keep (us sharp). We have to look at some point in time, ‘OK, it becomes a diminishing return.’ So hopefully, we hear something this week and we can make a decision based on that.”
Kenny says he still hasn’t received proof that Thurman was in an accident. “You’re asking me if I would like to see proof and the answer, again, is yes,” Kenny said. “But anyone in my position would like to see that.”
The Porters are trying to make Saturday’s exhibition resonate like a real fight. The boxers will weigh-in on Friday, with the bout hovering around the 149-150-pound range, Kenny said. However, there won’t be any intervention by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, Kenny said. There will be a referee and doctor independently booked, Kenny said, but tickets won’t be sold and it wasn’t clear if they will use their own judges. They’ve sent out private invitations to select media and friends to attend.
“They know what we’re doing here,” he said of the state commission. “But there’s a fine line that we can’t cross, certain things we can’t do. But we’re going to have a fight atmosphere that we’re going to develop by having a crowd in here and having people come in, lights and cameras and things of that nature. As much as possible, we’re giving everything we can do to try to create an atmosphere. But we’re not making any money from this.”
Shawn Porter has tried to make the best of a tough situation. “It’s certainly not what I wanted it to be,” he said. “But it’s going to be as close to a fight as we can make it. We’re going to try to create a fight atmosphere. We’re going to be going at it. I still get to display my skills and show my fans that I’m in shape and I’m ready. And that’s what we wanted to do once we found out this fight (with Thurman) had been postponed.”

@ChocolateGiddyUp even though I was pressing the Porter vs Garcia fight late last year...I don't think Thurman should be able to skate off like this. Thurman better heal up and get in that ring with Showtime
This aint Swift's battle...Thurman needs to glove up.
