Demetrius Andrade: Fox Was The Only Guy Willing To Fight Me!

By Keith Idec

Demetrius Andrade didn’t know anything about Alantez Fox until a few weeks ago.

He still has a lot of respect for the unknown, undefeated fighter because Fox is willing to do something most of Andrade’s targeted opponents haven’t done by agreeing to fight him.
Andrade and Fox will meet Saturday night as part of an HBO “Boxing After Dark” tripleheader from Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York (10:05 p.m. ET/PT).

“The only guy that was willing to get in the ring with me right now, on the notice that we both got, is Alantez Fox,” Andrade told BoxingScene.com. “That’s the guy that’s in front of me, that’s the guy I’m gonna take out and after that, we can talk about anybody else that’s willing to get in there.”

andrade-rose%20(3)_6.jpg

Andrade has grown tired of calling out fellow 154-pound champions, most notably Erislandy Lara, who owns the WBA “super” and IBO titles. They’ve traded challenges and insults recently, but Andrade (24-0, 16 KOs), the WBA world super welterweight champion, took the fight against Fox (23-0-1, 11 KOs) at middleweight because he didn’t want to wait any longer for the right fight in the weight class in which he owns a title.

“We could do this same stuff over and over and over,” Andrade said. “I call out this guy, call out that guy, but they either don’t respond or they don’t get in the ring, and we’re left with the same thing, who to fight. Alantez Fox was man enough and willing enough to get in there with me on October 21st, so everybody else is out of the picture right now.”

The 29-year-old Andrade, a 2008 Olympian from Providence, Rhode Island, is open to remaining at 160 pounds or returning to 154.

The undefeated southpaw’s new three-fight contract with HBO eventually could afford him opportunities to face elite middleweights contractually tied to the network. That group includes Canelo Alvarez, Gennady Golovkin and Daniel Jacobs.

“I’ll cross that border when I get to it,” Andrade said. “Right now, I’m looking at this fight at 160 pounds. I’ve called people out and tried to get the popular, name guys [at 154 pounds], and it didn’t happen. So I must look elsewhere.

“This fight’s at middleweight. At this point, I could be the best 154-pounder in the world. But if I don’t fight, how am I the best? Now I’m taking a challenge by moving up to the next weight class. I’m taking it very seriously because it’s a bigger weight class and I’m gonna be in there with bigger guys. So I definitely have to bring my ‘A’ game. To make noise and to keep myself alive, this is what needs to happen.”

HBO’s main event Saturday night will match Panama’s Jezreel Corrales (22-1, 8 KOs, 1 NC) against Puerto Rico’s Alberto Machado (18-0, 15 KOs) in a 12-round fight for Corrales’ WBA super featherweight title. The telecast also will include delayed coverage of a 118-pound title unification bout between Northern Ireland’s Ryan Burnett (17-0, 9 KOs), the IBF bantamweight champ, and Kazakhstan’s Zhanat Zhakiyanov (27-1, 18 KOs), the WBA bantamweight champ, from SSE Arena in Belfast.

Keith Idec is a senior writer/columnist for BoxingScene.com. He can be reached on Twitter @Idecboxing.

I've said for years, "if you're avoided in your division....why not move up then and face new competition?". Happy to see one of my Boxers following this mindset:obama:

Tomorrow night, Andrade is back on my screen :banderas:

@ChocolateGiddyUp aint gonna like this one:sas1:

Especially when he was part of Lara's defense team during the whole Andrade/Lara back & forth's on here:sas2:

Lara Sounds Off: Lubin Was a Child! I'll Beat Charlo! I'll Beat Hurd!

WBA/IBO junior middleweight champion Erislandy Lara (25-2-2, 14 KOs) is pressing hard to get his hands on the other champions in his weight class.

Last Saturday night at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, Lara retained his title with a lopsided decision against previously undefeated 2012 U.S. Olympian Terrell Gausha (20-1, 9 KOs).

As part of the undercard, two of the other beltholders retained their belts with impressive wins. Jermell Charlo retained his WBC title with a first round demolition of undefeated Erickson Lubin, while IBF champion Jarrett Hurd broke down and stopped former beltholder Austin Trout.

lara-charlo.jpg

The first round knockout by Charlo (30-0, 15 KOs) was the performance of the night, with a single right hand putting down Erickson Lubin (18-1, 13 KOs) for a knockout win.

Hurd (21-0, 15 KOs) had some trouble in the early rounds, but his sheer size and power wore down Trout and saw him suffer his first career stoppage loss.

It wasn't that long when Lara and Charlo were training partners under the tutelage of veteran coach Ronnie Shields. Eventually Charlo left Shields' stable of fighters, but Lara still trains side by side with Jermell's twin brother, middleweight contender Jermall Charlo.

Lara was not overly impressed with Charlo's knockout win over Lubin. He felt the young up and comer was still too inexperienced and not even close to being ready for an opponent on Charlo's level.

Lara sparred with Charlo numerous times and feels very confident that he would beat his former stablemate in the ring.

The Cuban doesn't care if it's Charlo or Hurd - he wants one of them next.

“I’ve trained with Charlo for a lot of years, and he knows the problems I present. Compared to me, Lubin’s a good kid but a built-up prospect and a child. If it’s Charlo, I’ll beat him. If it’s Hurd, I’ll beat him. I’m willing to fight Hurd or Charlo, and I want them next,” Lara told Premier Boxing Champions.

I wonder how Mall Charlo feels about this, knowing Lara is talking down on his brother:lupe:

I wouldn't be surprised if Mall calls Lara out himself or something happens in the gym in sparring between them eventually:lupe:

Was I laras defense team or Andrade prosecution :jbhmm:... big difference

Hurd got an ibf Mando next so he out the picture

Lara said it's jus business regarding Charlo...make it happen...lara is :flabbynsick: Charlo gets the W

Demetrius Andrade: Golovkin Beat Canelo - I Want GGG Next!

So if he had his way, who would Andrade like to face next? He replied without hesitation - "Triple G.''

"Because he's at the top of the food chain, I believe he beat Canelo (Saul Alvarez) and for me to be who I want to be, it would have to be against somebody like him,'' Andrade told BoxingScene.com in a recent interview.

"It seems like he's given everybody else opportunities. He gave David Lemieux an opportunity, he gave 'Canelo' an opportunity, I know he was looking for (Billy Joe) Saunders but Saunders is fighting David Lemieux.

doubt that until Charlo is not with HBO

Charlo and Derevyanchenko as the only significant fighters not with HBO now in 160 need to go to HBO otherwise they probably won't be invited to the party. HBO actively invests in 160, 130 and 115, they rather put together their fighters than others.

on the other hand Charlo is WBC mandatory so there's that, but if Canelo beats Golovkin on the rematch he can wipe his ass with that and regardless of who wins the rematch my guess he will get an exception under the Charlo fight anyway to unify all 4 belts with the BJS vs Lemieux winner

Demetrius Andrade: Golovkin Beat Canelo - I Want GGG Next!

By Steve Kim

Demetrius Andrade faces Alantez Fox this Saturday from the Turning Stone Resort and Casino in Verona, New York. Andrade, who held various portions of world titles at junior middleweight, is now expected to settle in as a middleweight as he signed a multi-fight deal with HBO.

So if he had his way, who would Andrade like to face next? He replied without hesitation - "Triple G.''

"Because he's at the top of the food chain, I believe he beat Canelo (Saul Alvarez) and for me to be who I want to be, it would have to be against somebody like him,'' Andrade told BoxingScene.com in a recent interview.

golovkin-andrade.jpg

"It seems like he's given everybody else opportunities. He gave David Lemieux an opportunity, he gave 'Canelo' an opportunity, I know he was looking for (Billy Joe) Saunders but Saunders is fighting David Lemieux.

"So if he doesn't have any fights lined up, I mean, it's only perfect that the next fight in the second quarter of the year would be against somebody like me."

It's an interesting answer given by Andrade, given that it's Alvarez who represents the bigger payday. To which he reasoned - "Yeah, of course there's probably going to be more money in facing Canelo but there's going to be more money after I beat Triple G to fight Canelo though."

The 29-year old Andrade (24-0, 16 KO's), who's momentum has stalled in recent years, last fought on March 11th in Germany where he narrowly defeated Jack Culcay for the WBA 154-pound title.

Canelo challenged Golovkin for the IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC middleweight titles last month, and they fought to a twelve round split draw at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. At the moment the two sides are discussing the possibility of a rematch, which may take place in May of next year as part of Cinco De Mayo weekend.

You know I have Andrade on my second tier, I don't want to see two fighters I like square off right know.

Andrade should go find Charlo, while GGG beats Canelo a second time and the catches Lemieux or BJS for unification.

We will see what is up a year from now.

Andrade looked big in the pics below, didn't look small next to Ward. :ohhh:

Dan Rafael chat wrap 10/20:

- Morales should definitely get in the HOF this year. Hatton may have to wait, it is a pretty deep class. Goes back and forth but thinks Hatton gets in eventually.
- Like watching the Charlo's fight and they are good guys even if they don't come off as such. Appreciates their emotion over fighting. Excellent fighters.
- The Charlo's aren't more popular because they don't have a promoter and they don't fight often enough. They also aren't very media friendly. He has always had good interactions with them and they are good fighters, but they have ways they could enhance their careers.
- Believes GGG vs. Canelo 2 will get done for May. Likely venue is Las Vegas.
- Tapia is shot and is mad that GB put him in another fight. Should call it quits.
- Rosado should retire as well.
- Derrick James (Charlo, Spence) definitely deserves consideration for trainer of the year.
- Charlo vs. Lara? No desire to watch that fight, Lara is boring. Would like to see Charlo vs. Hurd.
- Hopes we see Wilder vs. Joshua next year. Haymon and Hearn get along fine and there will be lots of money, so no reason to not make the fight.
- Wilder wants Joshua ASAP. Joshua does not feel the same way.
- Crawford's next fight? Likely first quarter of 2018 vs. Jeff Horn.
- Bryant Jennings will be on the Loma-Rigo undercard.
- Barclay's would like to host Spence vs. Peterson, but no official venue yet.
- Sees Spence vs. Peterson as a very good fight. Thinks Spence wins by late KO or decision.
- Hearing that there is no chance Malignaggi would be McGregor's next fight.
- Hurd needs to sure up his defense, but he is entertaining to watch. Matchmaker Ron "Terdsak" Katz told him Hurd reminded him a bit of John Mugabi.
- Spence wants a Thurman fight ASAP. Believes Thurman is fine taking the fight, but definitely wants a tune up (maybe two) coming back from injury.
- Had Lara winning a shutout. Gausha did nothing. Despite being boring, Lara toyed with him.
- Eubank Jr. vs. Groves? Eubank.
- Right now is Canelo a HOF'er? Yes.
- Favorite in Lemieux vs. BJS? Lemieux.
- If all these fighters are eligible, who gets in: Wlad, Floyd, Pacquiao, Bradley, and Cotto? Under current rules only 3, so Wlad, Floyd, and Pacquiao would get in.
- A PBC fight that has been rumored is Victor Ortiz vs. Josesito Lopez 2.
- Jose Luis Castillo for the HOF? No.
- Orlando Salido for the HOF? Let's not get carried away.
- Gassiev vs. Krystoff? Krystoff is very experienced, a good boxer, and will have the crowd behind him, but picking Gassiev due to his youth and power.
- Does he visit any boxing message boards? Used to years ago, but now rarely does.
- Was Tapia not that good to begin with or did Kirkland ruin his career? Could be a combination of both, but the Kirkland fight definitely ruined his career.
- Has tried to get in touch with Terrel Williams (post Colon fight) to see if he has any future career plans, but has had no luck.

Golovkin's Coach To Charlo: You KO'd a Cripple, Wait Your Turn! - Boxing News

New York - The middleweight division is starting to heat up and becoming one with a multitude of possibilities of matchups. At the top of the matchups is the rematch of the highly contested draw between Canelo Alvarez (49-1-2. 34 KO’s) and Gennady Golovkin (37-0-1, 33 KO’s). The bout seems to be lined up for next year, according to Golovkin’s trainer Abel Sanchez.

“I think that Golovkin’s next fight is Canelo,” Sanchez told BoxingScene.com

There is no bigger fight for either fighter in the near future. After the Canelo fight, Sanchez is unclear of the path Team Golovkin will take.

“After that rematch with Canelo, who knows?” said the trainer. “It’s a matter of sitting down with the whole team and trying to line up a path that’s best for Gennady. Nothing is written in stone and you just mentioned [David] Lemieux should he win [with Billy Joe Saunders] and that’s another name that could happen next year. Depending on how the whole negotiations go with Tom Loefller and Golden Boy who handles Canelo, then we can map out 2018.”

A name that has presented itself is the mandatory to Golovkin’s WBC middleweight title - Jermall Charlo (26-0, 20 KO’s). Charlo recently moved up to middleweight and knocked out John Sebastian Heiland to become the mandatory. Sanchez says that just like Golovkin had to wait his turn, so does Charlo.

“He knocked out a cripple, Sanchez said of Charlo stopping Heiland. “I think he has to earn he right to fight Golovkin. Just like a guy like Keith Thurman is telling Spence he has to wait to fight because he’s not known. I think these guys have to earn a shot to fight someone like Golovkin or Canelo. Reason they want to fight Golovkin or Canelo is because they want to cash out.”

The big names would not fight Golovkin for years and Sanchez feels Charlo has to bring something to the table to fight Golovkin.

“They want a big purse. Golovkin was number 1 rated for Felix Sturm for two years and then Martinez. Then we were mandatory for Cotto and even for Canelo it took a while. You have to make sure the people want the fight. Can you imagine what Charlo would do in sales? He wouldn’t sell nothing. I think we like to make title fights but obviously you have to earn them and he hasn’t earned it.”

@ChocolateGiddyUp they finna stall yall out breh :snoop:

And if Canelo wins the WBC he'll drop it before giving Mall the mando

Canelo wins drops it, lets get Charlo vs Andrade for the vacant title :ahh:
