The World Boxing Association (WBA) Welterweight Championship was vacated due to the resignation of the champion, American Lamont Peterson.

The boxer sent a letter to the organization, in which he stated that he does not want to be an obstacle for the rest of the fighters of the ranking who have the objective of fighting for the belt.

Also, he thanked the WBA for the opportunity offered and their recognition as a Champion.

Now, Keith Thurman, Super Champion of the category, is the only WBA champion at 147 pounds.
