Honestly all of these fighters like Crawford, Thurman etc would all be superstars in the UK...we talk about Crawford having no personality but real talk Joshua doesn't have any and hes already a household name here. Over here as long as you're a british fighter and you're good you've got that type of status.
But the US is a different ball game it takes more than 'over 1 milli views peak time on TV' to be a star
. Aint none of these black fighters becoming a 'star' unless they do what white people don't like seeing black fighters do - flash cars, money, women, arrogant unapologetic trash talker. They'll hype up a foreigner that can barely speak English (Lomachenko) before they hype up someone like Andre Ward who actually represents the country
. When you hear commentators call Loma #1 p4p its blatant disrespect to Ward its as if they wanna act like Ward didn't run it back and TKO one of boxings boogeymans.
So dont listen to people talkin about 'oh he has no personality so he cant be a star', it aint just about your personality its about whether the people wanna push you to stardom
It also doesn't help the popularity of the sport appears to have fallen in the US whereas in other countries the sport is held in high regard, thats part of why boxers in the UK tend to shine here more than in the US.
Its a fukked up game for us but thats how they want black fighters to reach that superstar status in the US. Its sad some American fighters literally have to come over here just to be truly appreciated.
