“I don’t know,” Spence said Thursday during an informal luncheon with reporters in Manhattan. “We’ll see. Only time will tell. I fought Kell Brook off a nine-month layoff, so I don’t see why he can’t fight me. But we’ll see.”

The 27-year-old Spence expects to make his first title defense sometime in the fall against an undetermined opponent. Assuming he is successful and doesn’t suffer an injury, Spence (22-0, 19 KOs) hopes a fully healthy Thurman will await him in his following fight.

The powerful southpaw from DeSoto, Texas, also wouldn’t mind meeting Manny Pacquiao (59-6-2, 38 KOs) in a 147-pound championship unification fight.

Spence isn’t sure that fight will ever become a realistic possibility. Besides, Spence considers a bout between him and Thurman more meaningful because they’re both undefeated champions in the respective primes of their careers.

“My thoughts on Keith are he’s doing his thing right now,” Spence said. “He’s hot. He just beat Shawn Porter, he beat Danny Garcia. That’s a nice win streak, Shawn Porter and Danny Garcia. So I take my hat off to him. But that’s the fight that I want and I feel like that’s the only fight that needs to be made at 147. So hopefully we can make that happen sooner than later, when he gets better and all healed up.”

The 28-year-old Thurman (28-0, 22 KOs, 1 NC), of Clearwater, Florida, added the WBC welterweight title to his WBA championship when he defeated Philadelphia’s Danny Garcia (33-1, 19 KOs) by split decision in their title unification fight March 4 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Thurman announced May 19 that he had elbow surgery April 19 at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan and would need six months to recover.

Showtime executive Stephen Espinoza hasn’t spoken to Thurman since Spence stopped hometown hero Kell Brook (36-2, 25 KOs) in the 11th round Saturday night in Sheffield, England. But a message from Thurman was relayed to Espinoza that made him confident Spence-Thurman is a fight we’ll see sooner rather than later.

“[Showtime’s] Brian Custer texted [Thurman],” said Espinoza, Showtime Sports’ executive vice president and general manager. “He said, ‘You know Keith. Keith is not shy. He said, let’s clear up the elbow and let’s do it.’ I think that’s, for my money, the only other guy [besides Spence] who has an argument, in terms of [being] the No. 1 in the division. And that’s an argument. If you had to rank them, those are the two guys you’d put at No. 1.”

Spence might've been off 9 months but he also wasn't coming off surgery either. I hope keep takes a busy fight to test his elbow. I hope both are at 100% so there's no excuses.

Dan Rafael chat wrap 6/2:

- Broner vs. Garcia? Garcia.
- Thinks Garcia's power will be just fine going to 140, but doesn't believe it will be as strong as Maidana's.
- Can Broner make 140? Who knows, but hope he does. No one would be surprised if he didn't. JCC made 164.5, so there is hope.
- Hearing Barclay's really wants Broner-Garcia. Could also be in Vegas (regards to Mayweather Promotions having the MGM on hold for July 29).
- Broner's low punch output won't help vs. an accurate puncher like Garcia.
- Doesn't think the 140 lb limit affects Garcia at all, Broner is going to have to work hard to make it.
- Will the winner of Garcia vs. Broner fight Crawford next at 140? No.
- Gives Garcia vs. Pacquiao almost no chance of happening.
- Lomachenko vs. Salido isn't done yet, but likely to happen this summer. Arum wants it in LA or Chicago.
- Not sure if the rumors of Ward's team trying to sign JDJ are true. Maybe it is something to try to boost buzz, because the fight has absolutely none, which is a shame since it is a good fight.
- 24/7 for Ward vs. Kovalev debuts tonight.
- Believes the PPV sells about the same as the last one: 165k.
- Spence is a top talent, but not a star. He can become a star, but is not one yet. He is relatively unknown and his Showtime numbers were less than 300k.
- Spence said he thinks his next fight likely will be against Thurman, Peterson, or Porter.
- Likely Spence returns November on Showtime. Would like to see him back earlier so he could get in 2 more fights this year.
- Crawford and Spence are on different paths right now. Could they fight one day, sure, but doubtful in the immediate future.
- Doesn't want to criticize Brook because he was done and he knew it. A lot of fighters quit and just try to survive, Brook kept fighting hard until he knew he was done with a legitimate injury.
- McGregor vs. Mayweather would outsell Canelo vs. GGG PPV's.
- Believes McGregor vs. Mayweather will happen.
- Brook should take a long break and when he comes back should return at 154. What about Brook vs. Cotto?
- Would not be surprised to see Cotto fight beyond 2017. He talked about it the last time he talked to him.
- A Cotto vs. Canelo fight after GGG is not guaranteed, but certainly a possibility.
- The IBF is considering ordering a rematch between Dirrell and Uzcategui.
- Has hung out with Dirrell's uncle and he was a nice guy. He just happened to do something shameful that hurt his reputation and is going to cost him some jail time and money.
- Mike Perez at CW? Serious doubts he can be successful. Will believe it when he sees it.
- Still talks going on to make the rematch between Chocolatito and Sor.
- Top Rank has pulled its UniMas cards (which always lost money) and is going to put them on a new platform they are announcing - it is big. This platform will handle Pacquiao vs. Horn (not on PPV), Crawford-Indongo, and Lomachenko-Salido.
- They are expecting 55k for Pacquiao vs. Horn.
- Loves Roach, but anything he says about training camp should be taken with a grain of salt (in regards to Pacquiao having a shoulder injury making him look poor).
- Told that Hurd vs. Trout has been agreed to, but no date determined yet.
- The CW tournament is exciting. It is an excellent division that needs exposure.
- The Schaefer tournaments likely to be on Showtime, according to Showtime.
- Has quit asking about the return of Nicholas Walters.
- Dulorme vs. Ugas was cancelled due to an injury with Dulorme. Hopes they reschedule because he was interested in the fight.
- Alvarado looked pretty good and in shape last week. If he keeps it up he will probably get a good fight on TR's new series.
- If/when Crawford and Indongo fight, not sure if the IBF belt will be up for grabs.
- Believes Crawford fights Indongo at 140 and moves up to 147 and takes a fall fight.
- Is Indongo ready to fight Crawford, his record isn't deserving yet? Who cares, he has the belts, he is undefeated, and it is an interesting match.
- No US TV yet for BJS vs. Khurtsidze.
- Most powerful puncher at 147? Maybe Thurman.
- Nothing yet for Gervonta Davis. Would like to see him fight Farmer at home. Could be any number of guys.
- Would be surprised if the TBD date of PBC's on NBC in September happens.
- Would love Jacobs vs. Lemieux, but doubting it happens.
- Nothing on Postol.
- Williams vs. Lara was a terrible decision, but don't think it affected Lara's career much. He still won a world title and never would have been much of a draw.
- Worse decision: Ward-Kovalev 1, or Hagler-SRL? Ward-Kovalev.
- Hasn't been a fight at the Prudential Center in a long time, imagines Shakur Stevenson will fight there eventually.
- How is Stiverne a mandatory in 2017? The WBC has been really good lately, but that one is bad.
- Fonfara has a chance vs. Stevenson. He dropped Stevenson last time and fought with heart.
- Prograis is on the verge of becoming a serious contender. His biggest drawback is inactivity.
- Thoughts on Briggs blaming asthma medication for his failed test? He is a liar. He knows that if he takes medication he has to disclose it to VADA and get an exception.
- Not sure what is going on with Frankie Gomez, but GB has said he hasn't been in the gym in months. The amount of money GB has wasted on him is obscene.
- Spence vs. Khan? Spence would drill him.
- If Lundy wins tonight, he probably still needs to do a bit more to secure a big fight.
- Still interested in Brook vs. Khan. It really is the only fight that makes sense for both guys next.
- Greatest round ever? Round 10 of Corrales-Castillo and round 1 of Hagler-Hearns.
- The final round of JDJ vs. Castro was a great one. Toney-Jirov round 12.
- Wilder and Parker have talked, but with both of them having mandatories it seems unlikely that fight is next.
- First name you think of when you hear "wasted talent"? Francisco Bojado.
- Tony Yoka debuts tonight. He won a HW gold medal, that means he is supposed to win a HW title one day.
- How would ODH have fared during the SRL, Hagler, Hearns, Duran era? Nothing against DLH, he was a tremendous fighter, but doubt he wins any of those fights.
- When he saw Michael Grant in the week leading up to the Lewis fight he was a nervous petrified wreck. Gave him no chance to win the fight.
- PBC could survive in some fashion, but it will be nothing compared to what they initially promised. A lot of money has been wasted, a lot of fighter inactivity, and no real stars have been created.

If you're that confident i hope you'd ip ban bet me and not p*ssy foot and just agree to an avi bet. Wilder will knock him the fukk out and I'm putting my account on that.

This fight is gonna be fantasy fight status until about 2019-2020 breh'ski...so it's really a waste of time even hypothesizing about it. :heh:

And AJ is likely gonna have a L or 2 by then...1 definitely if he don't drop that WBA...he ain't getting past Ortiz.

And?

I don't see the point in bringing up shyt that happened in the AMs like it means something in the pros :manny:

its apart of boxing.....that shyt even happens to every fighter.

u could also say why we bring up fighters who got gold medals as a positive.:yeshrug:(no one complains about that) that shyt just happens man.

plus I never said that amateur/sparring shyt mattered....if u saw when I spoke on the wilder/wlad matter. I also used to say winning gold medals didn't matter when spence would get shyt on for not winning a gold medal.

but I just pass on news. u can take it how u want.

Exclusive: Leon Lawson felony charge dismissed, misdemeanor trial date set for August 16

WBN have been informed of the outcome of Leon Lawson's preliminary hearing for the uncle and trainer of Andre Dirrell's attack on Jose Uzcategui.

Lawson jumped in the ring on May 20 to attack Uzcategui after the Venezuelan contender was disqualified and charges were immediately brought against him.

Following the hearing, attorney's Frank J. Manley and Thomas C. Mooney have managed to reduce the initial charge against Lawson.

"Representing nationally known boxing trainer Leon Lawson, his legal team are announcing positive news in his criminal case," Manley lawyers exclusively told World Boxing News on Friday.

"Lawson, of Flint, Michigan had initially faced felony charges stemming from an altercation following a May 20, 2017 Championship Boxing Match involving his nephew, Boxer Andre Dirrell.

"Today’s news is that following a preliminary hearing, the felony charges against Lawson have been dismissed. Lawson still faces a misdemeanor charge. A trial date of August 16,

"Lawson still faces a misdemeanor charge. A trial date of August 16, 2017 has been scheduled in the matter in the Prince George County District Court."

Dirrell has since been ordered to rematch Uzcategui at the earliest opportunity, whilst Lawson has been suspended indefinitely by the WBC and WBA.:ohhh:

The actions of Lawson shocked the sport and follow a similar incident involving Juan Manuel Lopez and a member of opponent Wilfredo Vasquez Jr's team in October of last year.

this dude sounds like he gonna come back and ask for the rematch.

Klitschko Feels That He Gained More From Losing Than Winning

"After years of constantly preparing myself up for victory, this is a completely new experience. I now understand that success does not necessarily mean achieving a set goal. Instead, success means achieving the best possible result. Sometimes we cannot see beforehand what the best possible result might be. In the end, it was Anthony Joshua who struck the decisive blow and left the ring victorious. I failed to achieve my goal of winning, but I did in fact gain much more than this," Klitschko told LinkedIn.

"I never thought I would say such a thing, but: in defeat, I achieved much greater success than I would have had I won. Fans and sports enthusiasts worldwide are celebrating my performance and showing me their appreciation. Even my opponent expressed his respect for me. The responses that I received and continue to receive after this night of boxing are overwhelming. Commentators reported that I showed greatness even in defeat.

"It took a while for me to get over not winning in the ring. Yet I immediately experienced an increase in recognition and respect. When I appeared at Wembley Stadium on April 29, I was booed by the majority of the spectators. Joshua had a clear home advantage as an Englishman. But as I left the ring again, I got goosebumps. Tens of thousands of people who had wanted me to be defeated were applauding me. I experienced enthusiasm, encouragement and respect: for me, my performance, my fair fight and my boxing as a whole. I cannot wish for anything better." - See more at: Klitschko Feels That He Gained More From Losing Than Winning - Boxing News

Brook has slightly larger fracture than he did against Golovkin

Despite Kell Brook having a larger orbital bone fracture than the last time, this one is expected to be easier to operate on.

689125380.0.jpg

Trainer Dominic Ingle backed Kell Brook’s decision to discontinue in his fight against Errol Spence Jr. last weekend, saying that he allowed the fight to continue for longer than he did against Gennady Golovkin because Errol Spence Jr. isn’t as devastating a puncher, telling Sky Sports:

"We're talking about Spence Jr, not Golovkin. Kell did say that Golovkin's power was much more devastating. From what I could see, Spence Jr wasn't landing too many clean, full shots to the face.”

Ingle does admit, however, that Brook having his left eye cracked in this outing (as opposed to the reconstructed right eye from the last time out) may have rattled Brook’s composure somewhat -- saying Brook was mentally prepared for the right eye to potentially give way, but certainly not the left - a scenario much more difficult to cope with.

Either way, with Ingle believing Brook to be up on the scorecards around the sixth-seventh round, he asked Brook to hang in there a bit longer, mentioning that Brook trusts him to stop the fight when necessary. After getting hit in the eye in the 11th round, Brook ultimately said his vision was impaired to the point where he simply had to call it quits.

Soon after the fight ended there would be many wondering whether or not this latest injury would spell the end of Brook’s fighting career - but neither Brook nor Ingle believe that to be the case.

“I spoke to Kell afterwards and he said: 'I've got a few fights left in me'. I've got no concerns that he won't box again. He'll have the belief that his eye will become as strong as the other one.”

Ironically, despite Brook suffering what Ingle describes as a slightly larger fracture than what he suffered in the Golovkin fight, this injury is said to be easier to operate on. The hope is that with this next surgery Brook’s left eye will become stronger than it previously was, just as the surgeons told him would be the case with his right eye.

Ingle says that after Brook is all healed up, he hopes that the big domestic showdown against Amir Khan will finally be made.
