Unrealated but I noticed that Larry Holmes, Michael Dokes, Corrie Sanders had a certain body type pudgy soft on the middle, arms kinda slim with the dad bod yet they were some of the fastest heavyweights around that time :dwillhuh:
Lazer like accuracy the lot of them :dwillhuh:

James tillis was another with that body type and had quick hands. Shyt is crazy.

Natural speed, fast twitch muscles I assume...

Genetics and diet also play a role. Either way, never judge a book by its appearance in the game of professional athletics.

shyt that is true. Just uncanny how some dudes who look like they're a drink away from full fledged pot belly are pretty damn fast. Y'all right about Tillis he was pretty damn fast and gave tyson a challenge. I would have said Bowe but he was built more like a linebacker and one of the best jabs too. Tony tubs looked like he came from a hotdog eating festival instead of a gym but the fvcker moved like a cruiserweight :damn:

Off of 17 months ring rust, BATB just showing up for a payday, bc he knows that's a stupid move.

If he takes a tuneup in June and then faces AB in September, hes still getting the "Beats by Adrien"...but it would be a competitive fight.
Don't count out Bradley....
A fight before Broner would be good for him but I wouldn't be surprised if he would beat Broner like this. The "I stand on the ropes 2 and a half minutes then I hit him with 2 eye catching shots" shyt won't work against Bradley :youngsabo: Too slippery :smugbiden:

Deontay Wilder: ‘In the heavyweight division you don’t need skills’

Deontay Wilder gives his take on Anthony Joshua vs Wladimir Klitschko

WBC heavyweight champion, Deontay Wilder gave his take on the Anthony Joshua vs Wladimir Klitschko WBA and IBF heavyweight unification clash and his own place in the heavyweight division.

“With Joshua he got the height, he got the power and in the heavyweight division you don’t need skills. In the heavyweight division you can eliminate skills from anybody, even including myself, I don’t need skills. I have power. You’re in the game once you’ve got that power, that equaliser that no matter what at any given time [you can use],” Wilder said.

He continued, “Maybe people don’t have it to the extent that I have it because I can get you out of there at any time but Joshua has a little power and they’re going to play towards him. If Joshua’s going to be successful he’s going to move and take angles and be smart with Klitschko. Because Klitschko very smart, he’s been around the block. He’s trying to set you up.
“[Joshua] definitely has a great chance in this fight and hopefully everything comes through and we have a mega-fight at the end of the year.”

I can see where he is coming from. Skills still pay the bills even at heavyweight but I can't think any other division where power can be a game changer like heavyweight. Especially since the whole ABC title splits.I mean a guy like Lucas Browne getting a title against Chagaev with power since he doesn't exactly have the strongest background in boxing (compared to chagaev who has a solid amateur background with wins over Stevenson etc) :dame:
At this weight anyone has the potential to knockout damn near anyone if they land flush. How many upsets or turn arounds have we seen at this weight division Douglas vs Tyson, Morrison vs Michael Bentt, Lennox Lewis vs Oliver Mccall/Hasim Rahman, Max Baer James Braddock. Wladimir Klitschko's losses. I ain't about to say they were lucky punches but at this weight power can turn things around Ala Marciano in his losing effort vs Jersey Walcott put the hammer down. Its seen in other weight divisions but with the heavyweights its uncanny and when you got Wilder power shyt happens in the blink of an eye and all of a sudden things turn dark and you start wondering what happened and where the hell you are:dame:
I see Wilder's point but I also gotta say that being a knockout artist is a skill set as well. Even with Wilder's knockouts his timing and set up for the KO is crazy :picard:
In the UFC its even worse because they have smaller gloves and no one has gotten more than 3 title defenses at heavyweight since the company's inception. :hubie:

ITs always been that, remember in the golden age of the 70s when they said you know a heavyweight fight isn't going the distance? Its because of the power. You get a certain size you can change a fight with one punch, especially if you have power. You are fukked if you fight a person with skill and a chin, like Ali, but thats once in a lifetime. Look at Foreman vs Frazier.

That said I don't think he means its not important to have skill, just that power is going to trump skill if you land at HW. You look lower and he is saying how Joshua needs to use skill to apply his power on Wlad and praising Wlad's skill.
