Dan Rafael chat wrap 11/11:
- Shakur Stevenson is still weighing his promoter options. Says he wants his debut in January.
- Outcome of Pacquiao vs. Crawford? Don't think they will ever fight.
- Manny looked good vs. Vargas. He showed speed, good timing, was in excellent shape, and good power. He was Manny.
- Vargas was a legit opponent. He had a title and deserved to be ranked in the top 10 at WW.
- Steven A. is a friend of his and he will admit that his commentary during the broadcast was rough at times. He met with him before the fight and knows he studied and was prepared. It should be a good learning experience for him.
- Most likely next opponent for Pacquiao? Mayweather. Rates it a 7/10 it will happen.
- If Pacquiao won the rematch would we see a trilogy? Yes.
- Dewey Cooper (Vargas' trainer) keeps it real as anyone he has ever dealt with.
- Hearing early numbers for the PPV at low 200's. Arum says the break even was 175-180k.
- Moretti's card (114-113 Pacquiao) was one of the worst card's ever. If Pacquiao didn't score a KD he would have had it a draw. That is CJ Ross territory.
- Even on a Showtime or HBO card the promoter is the one putting up the money, so they still take on risk (vs. PPV).
- Doubtful we see other promoter's put on a private PPV like TR did. Too much risk without having the help of Showtime/HBO.
- Manny will continue to fight on, but each fight will be done and evaluated one at a time.
- Expects Magdaleno to move to 126 in the not too distant future.
- Scored the fight originally 115-113 for Donaire. Rewatched it and still agrees with his first scorecard. Felt Magdaleno was gassed and Donaire dominated the late rounds.
- Donaire says he wants an rematch next. Don't be surprised if it doesn't happen.
- Jarrell Miller will get bigger fights. He is close to being a mandatory and Showtime likes him.
- Loves a Valdez vs. LSC fight.
- The undercard of Lomachenko vs. Walters will not be televised.
- Sosa vs. Smith? Interesting style clash. Smith by decision.
- Good job by Peter Nelson to add the Usyk fight to the schedule. He fits the budget and makes good fights.
- After WW the 2nd deepest division is featherweight.
- Will believe Spence vs. Brook when we see it. If it happens is picking Spence.
- Doubts Haymon would allow Spence to fight Brook in the UK for 25% of the purse.
- Brook vs. Pacquiao would be a good matchup, but doubtful it ever happens.
- Doubts JCC vs. Canelo ever happens. He wrote about it because JCC was talking about it.
- The GB lawsuit vs. Haymon is still going through the legal process. There have been some settlement talks.
- He has talked with the HOF director about changing the rules of entry from the top 3 fighters to a 75% vote threshold. They have no interest in changing the process.
- Crawford should dominate Molina, but we can't say that Molina doesn't have a pretty good resume.
- Even if a Mayweather vs. Pacquiao 2 fight did 1/3 the revenue of their first fight, it would still be the second highest grossing fight ever.
- If Broner takes Granados seriously it should be an easy fight, if he takes the fight lightly Granados will be a big problem.
- Broner wanting $6 million to fight Manny was an unrealistic number.
- Funny GGG-Trump story: GGG met Trump at the Lemieux fight and proceeded to call him "Don" for the rest of their meeting.
- People should look at Loeffler's track record when considering if he is the roadblock to making fights. He got the Brook fight done in 2 days, made Wade in a couple of days, the Lemieux fight was done rather easily, maneuvered GGG to be the WBC mandatory, and brought Chocolatito to HBO and has gotten him good fights, money, and publicity. He is about making deals, not preventing them. He can't make anyone fight GGG. And he still wants to make a fight vs. Jacobs without going to a purse bid.
- Remains hopeful GGG vs. Jacobs will get made.
- Should GGG swallow his pride and take the initial offer from GB? No.
- The Frampton vs. LSC and Cuellar vs. Mares winners will be ordered to meet in a mandatory.
- Arum owns the rights for Parker vs. Ruiz, thinks we see UniMas at the very least for television.
- Is Ievgen Khytrov the next GGG? Not even close.
- Next for Linares is probably a Crolla rematch.
- Fernando Vargas vs. Canelo at 154? Great fight. Picking Canelo.
- Lomachenko vs. Mosley at lightweight? Mosley.
- Should fighters like Mayweather be criticized for never going overseas? Why, he could make more money and make great fights here. ODH and SRL never went overseas and their careers weren't worse for it.
- Pacquiao vs. Lomachenko is an interesting idea, but thinks it is just an idea in Arum's imagination, not a reality.
- How often do fighters price themselves out of fights so they don't have to turn it down directly as a duck? All the time.
- At this point no US TV for Lebedev vs. Gassiev.
- BJS vs. Jacobs? Jacobs.
- Shiming has gained a more pro style, but lets remember his opponent was not very good. Chocolatito would eat him alive.
- Tim Bradley is a great guy to hang out with.
- Jarrett Hurd is an exciting up and comer. He is a good reason to watch Saturday's Spike card.
- As long as the insurance issue is dealt with, heard that DeGale vs. Jack will be at Barclay's.
- In private Angel Garcia is much more chill.
- Has heard Andre Ward is guaranteed $5 million vs. Kovalev, but we will see for sure when the Nevada contract is released next week.
- Does Roc Nation lose money promoting Andre Ward? Yes.
- Alvarado likely won't get another HBO fight, they are still upset at his performance in the third Rios fight.
- Arthur Abraham for the HOF? No.
