Exclusive: Shane Mosley enlists Roberto ‘Hands of Stone’ Duran as trainer for May world title shot
Six-time, three-weight world champion Shane Mosley has given WBN inside information of a link-up with the great Roberto Duran for a forthcoming world title shot in the spring.
Mosley, now campaigning back at his favoured welterweight limit, is back in contention with the major organisations following two straight victories lately.
One of those wins came in a rematch with Ricardo Mayorga last August when the future Hall of Famer took out the rugged Nicaraguan in six despite giving away 25 pounds in weight on the night. ‘Sugar’ Shane then following it up with an impressive victory over hardened Venezuelan and two-time Olympian Patrick Lopez in December by ending the fight dramatically with just one minute of the ten rounder remaining.
The latter against Lopez took place in Panama City, where Mosley struck up a friendship with middleweight legend Duran which eventually led to the pair preparing to begin camp for another crack at the big time in the coming months.
“I have a world title fight at 147 In May and the exciting news is my trainer will be the great Robert Duran,” Mosley exclusively told World Boxing News.
“Roberto has agreed to be my trainer as he worked with me in Panama before my last fight and we fell in love with each other as student and teacher.
“I believe he is really going to put me on this whole other level. I am already scary good right now, but with the little tricks and moves Duran is teaching me I am going to be unstoppable.”
Mosley wouldn’t give too much away on who that world champion opponent may be, although more is expected to be revealed soon and tongues have already begun wagging in the boxing world as to who it could be.
You have to go back to 2012 for the last time Mosley fought for a recognised belt when taking current middleweight ruler Canelo Alvarez the distance for the WBC super welterweight title in Las Vegas.
A 2009 clash with Antonio Margarito was the last time the Californian could call himself a fully-fledged world title holder when Mosley famously halted the Mexican in nine rounds in his home state. Following that triumph, Mosley took on the two best fighters of this generation in Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao - either side of a draw with ex-Contender champion Sergio Mora.
The last three years have brought an upturn in fortunes for Mosley - when injury free, and with Duran in his corner, there will certainly be extra interest in whatever contest is forthcoming in the imminent future.
“Imagine having Roberto Duran as the trainer for someone like myself. It’s never been done before. We have similar styles and technique so we are a match made in heaven,” he said.
“I am coming to knock out the best. They better get ready because Mosley and Duran are coming to take them out!”
because the heavyweight title picture is a lot more interesting with the tournament WBA is staging..the WBA didn't strip him of his title...but the regular and interim titles were already in place before he beat Wlad...and im all for those belts going away and it gives fury an opportunity to boost his credibility some more at HW.....based off the fact that browne-chagaev ended up being a good tournament fight for whatever reason im willing to let the WBA cook on this for a little bit..lets say fury loses to wlad and then the tournament shyt goes awry because wlad doesnt stick to the script then the WBA would be on some bullshyt.

Hopefully Povetkin doesn't pull out at the last minute again![]()
1) Why does Fury need to boost his credibility when he already beat the lineal champ?
2) Why was a tournament never made when :DeadKlit: was the champ?
3) Besides Fury everyone in that tourney is in their late 30's and 1/2 have failed drug tests
4) Fury shouldn't have to fight 3x for what he already owns, fukk That Tournament

They can't afford for them to fight 3 times a year. If they were getting 400,000 a fight they would fight 4 Times a year.
Who's promoting AB fight again?I feel you...I hate that too. No reason Swift shouldn't be the face of PBC right now, none. He needs to be fighting at minimum 3x a year imo.
Why not? AB and Swift getting similar purses (AB got $1.25 mill, $1.3 mill, and $1 mill over his last 3 appearance while Swift has earned $1.5 mill, $1.25 mill, and $1.5 mill over his last 3 appearances) and AB is about to fight his 3rd fight in 10 months on April 1st. Swift is currently bringing in bigger ratings and attendance than AB, so why they don't have him fighting every 3-4 months is liketo me
