Let's see if you still feel that way after the butter knife man fight. :demonic:

You think Im gonna switch my opinion if Loma outclasses WALTERS of all people???:shaq2::stopitslime::childplease:

You damn right I am:russ:

Loma is so skilled, but because of his lack of competition on his resume (GRJ domination was amazing, but GRJ has done nothing really to show us how big Loma's win actually was/wasn't yet), I have to go :whoa: on him beating everyone....even though skill wise I think he's easily the best. It's like a catch 22, which is why LSC is even bowing down to him in the call out as you pointed out:heh:

I don't think GRJ is trash I had to give him that work during the build up but he is good. I think he beats LSC, I think we've gone back n forth on this before. LSC and Loma are wrong for dude like Smoke said Loma's footspeed/angles would be a problem and Gary handspeed would have him running into shots all night. Rigawd would do both at the same damn time :wow:

Just my opinion though dude could also go in there and maul both of them but I think the chance of that happening is small.

By Scott Gilfoid: 32-year-old former two division world champion Ricky Burn (39-5-1, 13 KOs) could be facing #2 WBA 140lb contender Michele Di Rocco (40-1-1, 18 KOs) in May sometime in Glascow, Scotland for the vacant WBA “regular” light welterweight title. The fight still isn’t official at this time, as Burns’ promoter Eddie Hearn is still working on it.

It makes sense for the 33-year-old Italian Di Rocco to be fighting for the title, but it makes zero sense for Burns. He’s not ranked in the top 15 by any of the sanctioning bodies at light welterweight, and he of course isn’t ranked by the World Boxing Association.

It’s hardly fair to the contenders that are ranked by the WBA at 140 like #1 WBA Jose Benavidez, #3 WBA Mauricio Herrera and #4 WBA Ruslan Provodnikov. Burns is ranked #2 by the WBO at 135 and #15 by the WBC.

“Despite reports that’s it’s done we are still talking regarding Ricky’s next fight,” Hearn said to skysports.com. “There are plans to bring world championship boxing back to Glasgow and if we get our way we will be bringing a major event and opportunity for Ricky back to the city in May.”

Burns has turned his career around recently with back to back wins over Josh King and Prince Ofotsu. Those are not high quality fighters, but technically, Burns has turned his career around because he stopped losing. It’s kind of sad that his promoter had to drop down to weak opposition to stop Burns from losing, but what can you do? Burns’ career was imploding badly after he was beaten by Terence Crawford, Dejan Zlaticanin and Omar Figueroa.

If Burns’ promoter Eddie Hearns had kept putting him in with top quality fighters, we likely would have seen Burns quickly turned into a journeyman in no time flat. But thankfully, Burns has picked up a couple of wins over the obscure Ofutsu and King and he’s now in the position to fight for the vacant WBA light welterweight title in May despite not being ranked by the sanctioning bodies in the 140lb division.

As far as I can tell, Di Rocco’s resume is totally inflated with soft opposition. He was knocked out in the 7th round by Giuseppe Lauri in 2007. Since then, Di Rocco has won his last 23 fights. His wins in the last nine years have come against Alexandre Lepelley and Carlos Winston Velasquez. Those guys are pretty much easy marks.

You can’t blame Di Rocco for him being ranked highly in the division. It’s the WBA that chose to give him an inflated ranking based on wins over fluff opposition. However, I don’t agree with the WBA’s rankings at all. I don’t think Di Rocco deserves to be ranked above Herrera, Provodnikov, Adrian Granados, Thomas Dulorme.

I don’t think those are great fighters, but they sure as heck deserve to be rated above Di Rocco in my view. In looking at Di Rocco’s resume, I don’t think he should be rated in the top 15 at all, period. His opposition is just too elementary for him to be ranked in the top 15. I see him as someone who started his career with soft opposition in 2004, and he just never made the transition to 1st tier. Now Di Rocco is getting a shot at the vacant WBA “regular” light welterweight title. That just seems wrong in my view. Di Rocco should be fighting some kind of eliminator or fighting contenders from the 140lb division. Burns isn’t a contender at 140. He’s just a lightweight that is trying to rebuild his career after a number of defeats.

“I’m very happy for Ricky to get a chance of winning a third world title,” manager Alex Morrison told STV. “It’s a great chance for Ricky to resurrect his career and I’m happy he’s fighting an Italian because there is a big Italian community in Glasgow.”

Adrien “The Problem” Broner is the WBA “Super” light welterweight champion. He’ll be fighting on April 1 against second tier fighter Ashley Theophane. I’m not too enamored with that fight, as I think the WBA shouldn’t have sanctioned it as a title fight due to Theophane not being rated in the top 15 by any of the sanctioning bodies.

If Burns loses to Di Rocco, then I think it would be a good idea for Burns to think about retiring from the sport, because I don’t see where he can go to turn things around. Yeah, Hearn can put Burns in with a ton of fodder opposition and maybe he’ll get an inflated ranking off those wins like we’re seeing with Di Rocco, but I sure as heck can’t see Burns beating anyone good at 140 or 135. Hearn can certainly get Burns the fights with the top guys, but if all he’s going to do is lose the fights, then why bother?

Ricky Burns vs. Michele Di Rocco possible for May

Yall do know that whoever wins between Ricky Burns and #2 ranked Michelle Di Rocco becomes mandatory for AB being that they will now be the WBA "Regular" Champion at 140 right (#1 ranked and WBA Interim Champion Benavidez wants no problems with THEE Problem...at all)?:mjpls:

Good...I don't wanna hear any complaints later in the year when the fight is made:smugbiden:

Dan Rafael chat wrap 3/4:

- Believes that Lomachenko vs. Walters will get done and be on HBO. Will it be done for an April 30th date...wait and see.
- Arum and Peter Nielson are going to be at the fight together tomorrow and Arum said they are going to talk further about a Lomachenko and Postol double header.
- Doesn't know why Berto chose not to fight Peterson and doesn't know if that means Peterson vs. Figueroa will happen.
- A better chance we see Crawford vs. Provodnikov than Cotto-Provodnikov due to promotional issues (Roc Nation/Banner promotions lawsuit).
- Cotto's next fight being a PPV or regular HBO depends on the opponent. Versus Provodnikov it would likely be on PPV, vs. Diego Chaves it probably is on regular HBO.
- Thought Provodnikov beat Algieri.
- Joe Mesi was good for boxing because he had a great fan base, was good with the media and fairly interesting. Didn't believe he was a top tier fighter.
- If J Rock wins he becomes the mandatory for Jermall Charlo's title.
- Would not say PBC is broke, but they certainly have blown through a lot of their initial bankroll.
- PBC's cards are all primetime going forward, just less than expected. They were going to have 20 dates on NBC and 12 each on ESPN and Spike, but won't meet any of those numbers.
- Scored the fight for Frampton.
- Ortiz by mid round KO and Ali by decision.
- Ortiz: 242.6 lbs, Thompson: 263.8, Ali: 147, Vargas: 146.2.
- Vargas vs. Salido a done deal for June 4th at StubHub.
- Brandon Rios says he wants to fight again.
- Freitas knows that Dan named his cat after him (Popo) and says he has a picture of the cat on his wall. After Freitas lost to Corrales, Freitas asked Dan to come back to his dressing room and apologized for losing and said he hoped Dan wouldn't change the cats name.
- Matthysse vs. Herrera is very close to being finalized.
- JCC is a joke and not worth our time.
- Doubts Frampton defends against Rigo. A likely loss for Frampton and no money in the fight. Expects Frampton to defend against Shingo Wake or move up and fight LSC. Also believes Frampton will drop the WBA belt, which Rigo would be the mandatory if he wins.
- GB announced that April 15th they will have Soto Karass vs. Kamegai on its LA Fight Club series.
- Lemieux doesn't deserve an immediate title shot. He lost every second vs. GGG and should have to at least get a win before he fights for a belt.
- Wouldn't be shocked if Breazeale fights Arreola next.
- If Ortiz beats Thompson, GB would like Ortiz back on the Canelo-Khan card, possibly vs. his mandatory Ustinov.
- Ortiz could win vs. any other HW in the world.
- ODH did not duck a rematch from Whitaker. He had bigger business and no one really was calling for the fight.
- ODH best win? Vargas or Quartey.
- Mohegan Sun still gets first shot to try and resecure Thurman-Porter when it is back on, per DiBella.
- Would love a mini tournament of LSC, Frampton, Selby, and GRJ. And then Lomachenko gets to fight the winner (and picks him to win).
- Loma vs. Floyd at 130? Hard to pick anyone in history vs. Floyd at 130.
- Browne has a chance to beat Chagaev. Chagaev is beatable and Browne is motivated.
- The Showtime card TV numbers were horrible. Sure HBO being on at the same time hurt their numbers, but HBO tripled them.
- The anti-gay comments won't necessarily hurt Pacquiao's fights on HBO. If Pacquiao keeps winning and has good opponents, HBO will keep wanting to show him.
- Mentioned to HBO's PR staff that they were very slow in condemning Pacquaio and still want to market his fights. Not a good look.
- Rocky Martinez messed up, he passed on the Salido fight when his promoter didn't bid when he became a mandatory.
- Buy or Sell: Mike Tyson in 1988 is the best HW ever? Sell.
- Lee Groves ranks Tyson the 9th greatest HW ever. He personally has Tyson just outside his top 10.
- Only a small possibility Quigg vs. Donaire happens.
- Does not like rehydration clauses.
- Was Pavlik's drinking problem known before the Hopkins fight? It was an open secret for years.
- Zsolt Erdai for HOF? No.
- No decision yet whether Khan vs. Canelo will be available in movie theaters.
- Canelo's rehydration weight is normal. Does not know why people are making a big deal about it.
- B-Hop probably doesn't return until summer.
- Virtually zero chance of DeGale vs. Hopkins. Promotional issues.
- Would be interested in seeing Hopkins vs. Froch.
- Buy or Sell: GGG vs. Hopkins happens sometime? Sell.
- There absolutely was a crowd fight during Crawford-Lundy. Omaha showed up strong to NY. The hotels had lots of Crawford supporters from back home hanging out.
- Crawford is a good guy to deal with and keeps it real in interviews and his appearance of himself.
- Best French fighter of all time? Georges Charpentier or Marcel Cerdan.
- DC is a very underrated fight city.
- The GRJ fight and Pedraza-Smith will be April 16th at Foxwoods.
- GRJ entire career is a mystery to him. It boggles his mind that he is from DC, which is a good fight town and he has never fought there or in the region. He also has mostly fought horrible competition.
- There is no guarantee Wilder vs. Povetkin will happen in Russia, although it is starting to look like that is where it will be. Believes they overpaid by about a million to secure the bid.
