The GGG hate is so strong here that when Canelo and Cotto aren't sure they want to get in the ring next with Golovkin it apparently is viewed as GGG being "shook".
Hmmm...maybe you haven't been watching any GGG fights lately, Canelo and Cotto are the first two names out of his mouth. And the WBC says it is a mandatory, if they uphold it (which is their own law, a change would be breaking their own rules for the benefit of certain fighters) there doesn't have to be a catchweight negotiation...and which fighters would use that to protect themselves?

The thing is that the WBC named GGG interim champ and GGG took step aside money for Canelo-Cotto to happen, with the WBC saying that the winner must fight GGG next or forfeit the belt. That classifies GGG vs. the winner of Canelo-Cotto as a mandatory and the fight must take place immediately, they have 10 days after they fight to state their intention, or else the WBC will be required to step in (unless they backtrack on everything they have said and put in place).
Canelo-Cotto can try to negotiate a weight below 160....but because it is a mandatory, if GGG says
to a catch-weight and they cannot come to terms, the fight would go to purse bid. If it goes to purse bid there is no catch weight. It defaults to 160. So if GGG's team plays hardball and plays chicken hoping the WBC doesn't back out of anything that their own rules stipulate, then they get the 160 lb weight limit. Basically the only way a catchweight happens is if GGG decides to concede...and he doesn't have to. The threat may be that GGG wants the fight vs. Canelo/Cotto to happen and to get them in the ring you have to agree. Right now GGG's team is saying they won't give in and if Canelo/Cotto require a catchweight then they will just look for the WBC to strip them.
We will see what happens. A lot needs to take place before this becomes serious.
