Never knew that about SRL & Johnny Gill:yeshrug:

Oh well, Sugar Gay Leonard is still on my Mt. Rushmore of Boxing next to SRR, Ali, & Floyd:manny:
They tried to recruit Tyson too :russ:. Yeah it doesn't change anything now,but i don't know,it be a different situation if it was a current boxer I admired and came out as gay, like lets say I had a kid that was into boxing and his hero was like Canelo or something and Canelo said he was gay,I'd tell my son like :whoa: And tell him to look up to another boxer and take his Canelo Posters down :heh:

Jermell Charlo to fight October 31 in Houston on PBC?

Local sources are indicating that undefeated super welterweight Jermell Charlo, whose twin brother Jermall captured a super welterweight title this past weekend, will be fighting October 31 in his hometown of Houston, Texas against a yet to be named opponent. The venue will be the Reliant Arena and the show will be televised by Premier Boxing Champions on a yet to be named network. The local promoter will be Leija Battah Promotions of San Antonio.

In another twist, Charlo no longer works with Ronnie Shields. He recently replaced him with Derrick James, a retired fringe contender that is best known for training hotshot welterweight prospect Errol Spence. However, his brother Jermall Charlo still trains with Shields.

Rumored to be on the undercard are James Leija Jr., son of retired world champion and San Antonio legend Jesse James Leija, British prospect Craig Callaghan, and local Salvadorian prospect Pablo Cruz, who was last seen on Shobox, suffering a defeat to fellow prospect Adam Lopez.

This is the first headlining show for Charlo and the first Premier Boxing Champions show in Houston and the first boxing event in the Reliant Arena since Danny Garcia defeated Erik Morales in March of 2012.

The last boxing event in Houston was a box office super hit, when Saul “Canelo” Alvarez defeated James Kirkland in front a fawning audience of nearly 40,000 at Minute Maid Park in April. It will be interesting if this event can ride the momentum of such a tremendous bout. The Charlo twins are excellent boxers but it’s unknown if they have the large followings of the last two local stars, Juan Diaz and Rocky Juarez, who frequently sold out the Toyota Center in their prime years.
