GREENandYELLOW
2x...and defending
Dan Rafael chat wrap 9/18:
- The boxing chat will be moved to a new format, but for now it will stay as is.
- Would Joshua beat Wilder in 3 rounds? No.
- Industry sources have told him that Mayweather-Berto could have done as little as 400k and as much as 550k PPV buys.
- Lomachenko's opponent is terrible. To be fair, Lomachenko and TR offered the fight around and nobody would take it. Nobody really wants to fight him and he doesn't bring a big purse to incentivize a fight.
- Is a fan of Sammy Vasquez Jr. He is a nice guy and would like to see him get a bigger shot.
- Has not heard any rumors of a Vasquez vs. Spence fight. Bad matchup for Vasquez.
- Thinks Ward gets fight done and will be on the Canelo-Cotto card. Has not heard that Ward is asking for a cut of the PPV. If he did it would be laughable.
- Thinks Atlas will train Bradley to be more in control and brawl less.
- Who is at fault for not making Kovalev-Stevenson? Both.
- Thinks Kovalev would knock Stevenson out fairly easily.
- Floyd's IV issue is over as a story, but it certainly leaves a lot of questions. No boxer he has ever heard of has received a therapeutic use exemption 3 weeks after a fight. If the roles were reversed and this was Pacquiao the uproar would have been crazy.
- Doesn't trust the USADA. They have been sketchy with their boxing involvement, not transparent enough, too many questions and controversies.
- Fighter's usually stop training about 10 days before the fight. Usually during fight week they are trying to make weight and do light workouts to stay sharp.
- Ward is extraordinarily delusional about his drawing power.
- Jack's performance against Groves was the best he has looked. Groves looked sloppy.
- No news on a Rigo fight.
- Doesn't think we see a 5th Pacquiao vs. JMM fight.
- Danny Garcia vs. Manny Pacquiao? Extremely unlikely.
- Good chance Thurman will face Porter next in December.
- Kovalev is supposed to fight November 28 in Russia. No opponent yet.
- Apparently Haymon has a lot less control over Khan than he does his other fighters. Khan would get Haymon to "bless" a fight vs. Pacquiao, but really he, his dad, and his uncle could make the fight.
- Hearing Provodnikov might fight November 7. Opponent name being mentioned is Amir Imam.
- Disagrees with ODH that this is the worst era of boxing ever. Probably ODH sour grapes because Floyd's win vs. him launched Floyd into superstardom.
- Berto couldn't do a thing against Floyd and his "track shoes" comment was just him complaining because he couldn't do anything.
- DeGale vs. Ward? Won't happen. Ward is going to move to 175 and doubts he ever defends at 168 again. If he did it wouldn't be against DeGale.
- Floyd will continue to hang onto the belts as long as the organizing bodies will allow.
- Marcus Browne is a quality prospect and a likable guy. Campillo is basically shot, but a good veteran name to get on the resume. He is ready for better competition, but not elite fighters.
- Wilder's upcoming fight in the most egregious mismatch that PBC has put on NBC prime time.
- Fury has slim to no chance vs. Klitschko.
- Fighting Lomachenko is the only Rigo fight he is remotely interested in.
- He had Salido winning 8-4. No one ringside had Martinez winning, or even getting a draw.
- Both Salido and Martinez are open to a third fight and Espinoza said he would love to buy it.
- Judge Lisa Giampa has had some bad scorecards lately.
- Showtime will replay Mayweather-Berto along with Salido-Martinez 2.
- Mikey Garcia is trying to get PBC to buy his contract, but TR is asking for a lot of money.
- The Joshua vs. Whyte in the amateurs is a good story, but Joshua should beat Whyte pretty easily now.
- Oquendo beating Gonzalez was an upset, but not a big one. Gonzalez is on the backside of his career.
- Pacquiao vs. Canelo? Manny and Freddie say they will never fight above WW. Never say never, but doubtful.
- Fights he most wants to see at 147: Garcia-Khan 2, Thurman-Garcia, Maidana-Matthysse, Spence vs. top contender, and Pacquiao-Khan.
- Neither Canelo-Cotto or GGG-Lemieux will be shown in theaters.
- Nobody schools Mayweather. Yes he could be beaten vs. historical opponents, but no one dominates him.
- What weight was Floyd at his best? 130.
- Crawford vs. Pacquiao likely won't be next, but according to Arum is very possible before Pacquiao retires.
- Whitaker vs. Chavez and Holyfield-Lewis 1 were both horrendous decisions.
- Fury or Wilder? Both have major flaws, but Fury has faced better competition.
- For GGG-Lemieux HBO will have: Face off (including the trainers), Road to GGG/Lemieux, and classic fight replays.
- Haymon is paying publications and websites to cover PBC.
- Froch will probably end up in the HOF.
- Don't expect a reunion of Merchant being on The Fight Game with Lampley. He appeared on a 2012 episode, which was the night of his last HBO appearance and he apparently did so reluctantly.
- Disagrees that Brook is a top 10 PFP fighter.
- Baffled as to why Rigo is ranked so high by others in their PFP rankings. He has a good win vs. Donaire, but got dropped, has fought nobody else, was just dropped twice by a nobody, and is highly inactive.
- Believes Lomachenko beats Rigo.
- On a scale of 1-10 how disingenuous is Ward being when he says GGG won't fight him? 25.
- Charlo's performance against K-9 was extremely impressive.
- Who does he want to see Crawford face (if he beats Jean)? Matthysse (if he beats Postol).
- LSC can't hold belts in multiple weight classes because he doesn't get the special Mayweather treatment.
- Prime ODH vs. prime Pacquiao? ODH.
- It would be hilarious if Cuenca won his next two fights and then retired at 50-0.
- Prime Hopkins vs. current GGG? Interesting fight...B-Hop.
