Huge blow for 50 Cent's boxing company SMS Promotions -- TMZ Sports has learned the rapper's company has just filed for bankruptcy.

50 started SMS Promotions back in 2012 ... and signed some pretty big names in the sport, including then-undefeated champion Yuriorkis Gamboa, James Kirkland and Olympic medalist Andre Dirrell.

But apparently, the boxing biz hasn't been as kind to 50 as it has been to others like his pal Floyd Mayweather ... because according to court docs obtained by TMZ Sports, the company filed for Chapter 11 on May 25th.

In court docs filed in Connecticut, SMS says it has between $100k and $500k in debts.

SMS just put on a fight in Connecticut on May 15th -- though it clearly wasn't enough to turn the company around.

Story developing ...

I'm thinking it's probably not the best idea to sign with a rapper. We're talking boxing, but even with music when rappers sign to other rapper's labels, how often does that work out? Not often. That said, signing to 50, might not be the best decision for a fighter. I'm hoping Ward's situation with the Roc works out, but I'm skeptical until proven otherwise. Between inexperience, and the powers that be who are already established within boxing not playing fair, the odds are stacked against any newcomer to the promotion game. One would think a gangster would thrive in the industry, but even James Prince had his troubles with Goosen. File for bankruptcy, cut your losses and move on.

eh it was cool but i still think thurman-guerrero was better

#Thurminators/Ghost was too one-sided for it to be better than Omar/Ricky

Maybe from a marquee name standpoint it delivered, but that was it. I'd even say Swift/Peterson was more entertaining.

Thurman pretty much pitched a shutout minus a couple late rounds.
