Paul Williams Doesn't Want To See Mayweather vs Pacquiao
ppv0dls.jpg

Former champion Paul Williams is one of the few people who follow the sport of boxing who would rather not see Manny Pacquiao face Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Williams, who suffered a career ending injury in 2012, wants a new face to take over the throne of Mayweather. He would rather not have Pacquiao, 35-years-old, thrown into a position where he might become the first man to end the 47-0 win streak of Mayweather.

He would rather see a young up and comer like a Keith Thurman, Errol Spence or Danny Garcia knock Mayweather, who turns 38 in February, off the throne.

"Right now, I would not want to see [Mayweather-Pacquiao] because I don’t want the king to lose because I wanted to be the one to see if I could knock the king off his throne. If he does lose, I’d rather see him fight somebody up and coming, a new young lion because one, two, three more fights, nobody can beat father time. Father time beats us all," Williams told On The Ropes Boxing Radio.

"That’s why I think a new king has to come, some young boy has got to come and step up plate and throw more than one or two punches. They have to go in there and be the punisher and take it from the champion."

Dan Rafael chat wrap 12/5:

- The Pacquiao-Mayweather negotiations are more than just hype, there is negotiations going on. Top Rank, Showtime, and CBS are trying to find a way to make it work. He believes that HBO and Showtime will be able to come to an agreement. Also thinks getting Pacquiao to sign won't be a problem. In the end it will come down to if Floyd wants to make the fight and agrees to make a deal (fair deal). He believes Floyd is willing to make the fight, but making the fight means doing it according to Floyd's terms. Floyd wants to control everything and that is what could be the deal breaker. He is still very skeptical the fight gets made, but of course is hopeful.
- Bob Arum would not take step aside money to not be part of the negotiation.
- There is/was more tension between Arum and Schaefer than Arum and Haymon. Arum and Schaefer hated each other and believes that Arum had no respect for Schaefer. Thinks that Arum respects Haymon, even if they don't work together.
- Crawford is his leader to be FOTY.
- Haymon's NBC deal has not been announced, but he has heard we may see him put on cards as early as January.
- Canelo will fight in May regardless if the opponent is Cotto or not. At this point still believes Canelo-Cotto gets made.
- Picking Lemieux by KO, around the 7th rd. Thinks Dulorme-Lundy is a 50/50 fight. Picking Lundy be slight upset. Picking De La Rosa as well.
- Does not think Klitschko will fight Briggs. He would be stunned and disgusted if HBO accepted him as an opponent. He thinks the rumors are a ploy to help drive Jennings price down. Thinks they have hit a few negotiating snags and Klitschko's side is trying to let them know they have other options.
- Does not believe there is any truth to Mayweather-Pacquiao ever taking place in Abu Dhubai.
- Has not been given any concrete numbers on Manny-Algieri, but his sources say it was abysmal - a bit over 300k.
- If Mares wins, ODH says he wants to make Mares-Santa Cruz...but Haymon has the final say.
- He did not vote for Bowe to get in the HOF.
- Voted for Bob Sheridan to be in the HOF and cannot believe he is not in yet.
- Purses for Saturday: Rosado - $150k, Lemieux - $140k, De La Rosa $90k, Centeno - $50k, Dulorme - $110k, Lundy - $100k.
- Jim Lampley was given the HOF nod as well.
- Would love to see Crawford-Broner.
- Would like to see the winner of Alvarado-Rios 3 fight Provodnikov. Provodnikov's March 28th HBO date is not officially set.
- Rosado has as good of a chance getting a GGG rematch as Salka does with Garcia.
- Andre Ward will be on the card tomorrow - as an announcer.
- Doesn't think Jennings can beat Wlad...but also doesn't think there is any Heavyweight in the world who can beat him right now.
- Do not expect to see Gradovich and Lomachenko fight any time soon. They have the same manager and he does not like to match his fighters against each other.
- Victor Ortiz is working in Bradley's camp, Bradley said they do not spar with each other.
- Thinks Bowe vs. Klitschko would be a very interesting fight. Bowe had the skills to hang with just about anyone.
- Doesn't think anyone today can outbox Wlad. It will take a big punch, which is why he thinks it will take a tall and strong fighter. Wlad uses his size much better than he did 10 years ago.
- Picks Wlad by KO vs. Fury.
- Steve Cunningham's daughter was able to get a heart transplant last night. The surgery went okay and the doctors said they expect her to be okay.
- Rowdiest crowds at fights he has been at that felt uneasy: Tyson-Golota, Mayweather-Judah.
- If Mayweather-Pacquiao gets made he has contemplated doing a chat attempting to break ESPN's record for longest chat (longest I can find is Bill Simmons 7 hrs 4 min).
- 50% of gross PPV revenue goes to the cable and dish companies.
- Vargas-Pacquiao would be a pointless fight with no public interest.
- Top Rank would like to get Crawford to fight in NY. They are comfortable with him in Omaha because he draws well. Last weeks fight had a gate of 600k.
- Thinks Bradley may be too small to really succeed at 154.
- If Lemiuex wins, he could potentially be a future opponent for GGG.
- A fan made video:
