Rigondeaux Unable To Get Foe, Interim-Title in Play

Guillermo Rigondeaux (14-0, 9KOs) can't catch a break. The WBO/WBA super bantamweight champion has been unable to get the other champions of his division in the ring and now he can't get the top contenders in the rankings to face him.

The WBO had previously ordered Rigondeaux to defend his title against Chris Avalos. The challenger passed on the opportunity, instead choosing to pursue his mandatory shot against IBF champion Carl Frampton.

In order to set an official challenger to Rigondeaux, the WBO is going to put together a fight for the interim-super bantamweight title. After the two challengers are determined, and fight, the winner will then have to face Rigondeaux for the full belt.

Dan Rafael chat wrap 10/31:

Halloween Edition:

- Has no idea what to expect from Hopkins-Kovalev. Hopkins has never been badly hurt in his opinion.
- Sides on the Stiverne-Wilder negotiations claim fight has been made, but no location, date, or tv deal.
- If they fought in 2001 who wins, BHop or RJJ? Picks: RJJ.
- Europe and Asia fights are different because it is near silent in the crowd during the fight.
- Best 130 lb'ers over the last 50 years: Mayweather, Chavez Sr, Flash Elorde, Arguello.
- Showtime was not interested in the Pascal-Bute card.
- Gamboa's next fight is at 132 lbs. He does intend to go to 130.
- Agrees that boxing fans get too worked up if a fighter loses to another top fighter.
- Mike Tyson was on Jimmy Fallon playing Punch Out.
- Hasn't gone unnoticed that Showtime has opponents on cards named: Doudou and Sukhotski.
- He has heard no truth to rumors of Floyd fighting Taylor for his 160 lb belt.
- Thinks that if GGG and Ward fought, GGG is the A-side.
- ODH's fight were entirely unmatched on the women showing up for fights and hotels/casino.
- No chance Cotto and Canelo do a tune-up before their fight.
- Does not think Mosley's link to PED's keeps him out of the HOF.
- Buy or Sell, GGG retires undefeated: Sell.
- Says that HBO would have done the same thing Showtime did regarding Floyd's All Access controversies. Networks protect their fighters.
- Will vote for Toney into the HOF, but not on the first ballot.
- Bob Foster vs. Matthew Saad Muhammad: Foster.
- RJJ is insane for wanting a rematch with Lebedev.
- The ref will be interesting to watch in the Hopkins-Kovalev fight. Hopkins fights often involve a lot of ref involvement.
- Still would like to see Donaire vs. Mares.
- GGG's team said that vs. Ouma that he couldn't get to Panama until the day of the weigh in. He was exhausted from travel and wasn't even sure what his weight was before weighing in.
- Better all time: Larry Holmes or George Foreman? Holmes.
- Danny Jacob's next fight may be vs. Quillin or Taylor in the beginning of next year. Possibly at the Barclay's Center. Not sure NY would licence Taylor.
- The WBO is stripping Algieri because he is fighting for Pacquiao's WW title. Algieri's team said that was not supposed to happen in the talks leading up to the fight.
- Best son of a boxer, who became a boxer? Mayweather.
- Was surprised the Nevada Athletic Commission didn't even care to investigate the allegations it accused Mayweather of.
- Would be really excited for a Gonzalez-Estrada rematch. Favors Gonzalez, even with Estrada looking great recently.
- An opponent in the running for Arreola's Dec. 11 date: Joe Hanks.
- Thinks Steven A. Smith spoke the truth and Floyd has a hard time dealing with it.
