“Right now we’re just looking for someone to get it on with that’s just like Emmanuel [Taylor]. We’re just taking our time and picking the right opponents for Adrien [Broner],” Stafford said to Theboxingvoice.com.

That sounds like Broner's people have no faith in him if he steps up in class of opposition.

Stevie Forbes is fighting tonight in the main event of a Fox Sports 1 card against Antonio Orozco.
Forbes has not won a fight since 2010 I think. He needs to hang up the gloves.

The ONLY one of those 4 fighters that didnt have an easy night with Cotto was Mayweather.

Antonio Margarito, Manny Pacquiao, and Austin Trout all beat his ass easy
:dahell:
Floyd beat Cotto 9-3, that's not an easy night?
But Trout's 7-5 win over Cotto was an ass beating? :what:

Oscar De La Hoya vows to end boxing’s ‘Cold War’

Golden Boy founder Oscar De La Hoya said he has come up with a campaign slogan as he moves forward in promoting boxing: “Ego is not my amigo.”

For years, a cold war developed that began to polarize De La Hoya’s sport into two factions that began to erode fan interest.

But in the last year, De La Hoya began to gain control of his company and build bridges that divided the sport.

De La Hoya will be at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino on Friday as the special guest of the Golden Boy fight card.

At the end of last year, De La Hoya began to reach out to rival promoter Bob Arum with the intent to make fights together. That’s something the two companies have not done in years because of animosity between Arum’s Top Rank and De La Hoya’s Golden Boy.

With Top Rank and Golden Boy making fights, it’s infused some enthusiasm into fans who are hoping some dream matchups that seemed impossible in the past can be made now.

“I feel we are bigger and stronger than ever,” De La Hoya said in a telephone interview with The Desert Sun. “And this is only the beginning. We feel optimistic the future is bright and this is just the start.”

To get Golden Boy into its current position, De La Hoya had to deal with a messy split with former Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer, who helped build the promotion company into an industry leader. However, in Schaefer’s final days as CEO, he said he would refuse to deal with Arum, despite De La Hoya’s initiative.

A few weeks ago, De La Hoya brought his biggest star, Canelo Alvarez, to HBO for a lucrative, long-term contract while maintaining his home at Showtime. Prior to that, Top Rank fighters were only on HBO and Golden Boy fighters were only on Showtime, when it came to the two premium channels.

“A little competition doesn’t hurt anyone and it benefits the fighter,” De La Hoya said in a telephone interview with The Desert Sun. “That’s the bottom line. I’m looking out for the fighter. In the long run, the one that matters is the fighter. The fact I can negotiate with Showtime and I can talk with HBO, it’s healthy. It’s healthy for the fighters.

De La Hoya said his vision is bringing boxing back to the old days when top fighters fought top fighters. But with the “cold war,” top fights weren’t being made. The biggest fight that wasn’t made was Floyd Mayweather against Manny Pacquiao, which was considered so big that it would have had an estimated $60 million purse, and an outdoor arena in Las Vegas would be built for the fight.:scust:

But there were other fights that might have been made that weren’t, such as Timothy Bradley against Amir Khan, or Canelo Alvarez vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

“What is affecting the bottom line is the people who have power were thinking of treating boxing as a business. You cannot treat boxing as a business. You have to treat it as a sport and make the best fights possible. When then best fights happen, business automatically happens,” De La Hoya said. “Certain people that had the power to run boxing, they had it wrong.

“So now that I come back in, we have to go back to the roots: Make the best fights happen. That’s the bottom line.”

De La Hoya feels not only was the time right for the changes he wanted to make, it was needed. Both Pacquiao and Mayweather, the top stars and pay-per-view attractions in boxing, are starting to show their age.

And the cold war was hurting pay-per-view sales as no event in 2014 broke the million buy mark, which was a staple for both Pacquiao and Mayweather in the past.

“The changing of the guard is about to happen within the next year,” De La Hoya said. “All of us are ready to take on that role of being the next guy for the next 10-12 guys in boxing. This is perfect timing.”

De La Hoya said when he’s been talking to fans, there’s been less of a demand for the coveted Pacquaio-Mayweather fight. He said he’s gotten more demand for Alvarez to take on Miguel Cotto, which could be a top pay-per-view attraction in 2015.

“It’s interesting how the whole changing of the guard is taking place,” De La Hoya said.

He also believes there are other fights he and Arum could make that would please the fans, including Bradley taking on Marcos Maidana, and Pacquiao taking on his former friend and training partner Amir Khan.

And De La Hoya said if the fans want it, he’ll do his best to make it happen.

“Ego is not my amigo,” De La Hoya said, repeating his slogan. “That’s the bottom line. I have to leave my ego at home, take care of business and do the right thing for the sport.:mjcry:

So Oscar/Arum is still talking about this outdoor stadium bullshyt:bryan:

outdoor or indoor, its a welcome development for the sport. more fights, more money for the athletes, promoters, and networks. these fighters have been sitting around and wasting precious prime earning years because of this boxing cold war. Oscar is wise beyond his years. I remember the mayweather vs manny fight garnering/speculating a $100 million gate a few years ago.

Mike Stafford, the trainer for former three division world champion Adrien Broner, says that Lucas Matthysse isn’t in the picture right now for Broner at 140. They’re looking for a softer target that is similar to the guy that Broner just defeated in Emmanuel Taylor last September.

Matthysse is someone that they’d fight only if there’s a title on the line and he’s standing in the way of the title.

The fact that Broner’s management isn’t interested in putting him in with Matthysse is really telling, because it shows quite clearly that they have some concerns about Broner being able to succeed in the 140lb division. Those concerns weren’t there when Broner was fighting at lightweight.

“Right now we’re just looking for someone to get it on with that’s just like Emmanuel [Taylor]. We’re just taking our time and picking the right opponents for Adrien [Broner],” Stafford said to Theboxingvoice.com.

breh 7-5 wasn't the official score for that cotto-trout fight...that's skips' opinion...trout beat cotto 9-3 on 2 cards and 11-1 on another judges card...the judges got it right too which was the big surprise..trout whipped cotto with little difficulty..no one predicted this or how almost one sided this fight was

MATTHYSSE NOT IN BRONER’S IMMEDIATE PLANS

http://www.sportsnews24.com/boxing-mma/matthysse-not-in-broners-immediate-plans/5559

Back when Broner was in that class, he was ready to fight anyone in the division because he was considered to the No.1 fighter in that weight class. But things have changed since then now that Broner has moved up to welterweight and suffered a loss to Marcos Maidana. Broner moved down in weight to light welterweight after the loss to Maidana, and Broner has not looked good in his two fights since moving down in weight.

“Right now we’re just looking for someone to get it on with that’s just like Emmanuel [Taylor]. We’re just taking our time and picking the right opponents for Adrien [Broner],” Stafford said to Theboxingvoice.com.

It’s refreshing that Stafford is willing to admit that they’re cherry-picking for Broner because not a lot of people would have admitted what Stafford confessed to. Granted, it’s not exactly promising that Broner is being carefully guided to avoid the best fighters because it shows that he may not have a long shelf life at 140 unless they can get him a title after WBA/WBC champion Danny Garcia moves up in weight or if they can somehow beat IBF champion Lamont Peterson. In that case, Broner might be able to avoid Mayweather for a year, perhaps a year and a half before he’d be forced to fight him.

“If he [Matthysse] can keep up the same pace as we can I think eventually we’ll make that fight but we going for something else right now, but who knows we may take Matthysse if he’s in our way for the big prize,” Stafford said.

Well, the only way Matthysse won’t keep up at the same pace is if he fights someone like Danny Garcia or Mauricio Herrera and gets beaten by them, because they’re the only guys that would give Matthysse trouble at 140 other than perhaps Viktor Postol.

But Trout's 7-5 win over Cotto was an ass beating? :what:

Trout beat Cotto much cleaner and had an easier time against Cotto than Floyd did.

to be honest....trout handled cotto easier than anyone else...margo and pac beat down cotto but they went through some fire power to do so; floyd had to work to win the rounds and even he took some damage..trout was dominant to the point where we were just waiting for scoring fukkery to commence to mask the fact cotto lost so clearly lol
