Catching up on last nights fights...

Based on the comments here I didnt even bother watching the Berto fight lol

The Matthysse knock out was expected... Ortiz was a jackass to try to milk the count, but the stoppage was premature.

Big ups to @Newzz because Broner is such a frustrating fighter to watch who stylistically doesen't always fight to his strengths. First half of the fight I had 3-3, when it didn't have to be like that, Taylor was just outworking him really and catching him on the ropes. When he let his hands go, there wasn't shyt Taylor could do against him. Second half of the fight he did much better, used his feet more and pretty much controlled the fight. Broner doesen't have enough power or is good enough defensively to get away with that low output style like he did at 135. Taylor didn't do himself any favors by fighting like a sparring partner the second half of the fight until the 12th round really...

As far as Matthysse vs. Broner, if Broner fights like this, I don't see him winning. He gets caught to much by less caliber of fighters, and doesen't really much power/footwork to counteract it. Would be a great fight to watch though.

Sub par?:rudy:

His defense was at best average in the fight, but offensively he looked good in there.

Pumping the jab, showing off his combination punching ability, rocked Taylor with some hard hooks to the body and upstairs, and was even showing some improved foot work. His inside fighting game is some good shyt as well.

Overall, I thought he did go through some lulls where he would just lay on the ropes and let Taylor get some free shots on him with no return fire, and he got hit clean a few times more than he should have, but he ate em and still closed out the show in exciting fashion.

I still believe, unless you drop Broner, he's not losing a decision because he punches too accurately and when he let's his hands go, it's a beautiful sight to behold. The judges love that shyt.

Some of those shots got his attention.

Did anybody else notice that Kevin Cunningham was in Broner's corner as well for this fight?

Had both big brothers there in attendance as well....Lamont Peterson and Devon Alexander.

Working with Barry Hunter in training camp and having Kevin Cunningham in your corner? Might as well toss Stafford into the bushes with the Shoulder Roll:manny:

I always thought Kevin Cunningham would be a great trainer for AB.

And I wonder what "fake ass champion" he's talking bout that was supposed to be his homie, but talks shyt behind his back, and he doesn't make as much as AB does?:mjpls:

I have a hint...and I KNOW it ain't Floyd, Peterson, or even Alexander:sas2:

Yeah, AB is an exciting fighter to watch because you never know what's gonna happen. He's very up and down throughout fights and beats himself a few rounds by not letting his hands go. I really think Paulie's analysis of him was spot on the entire fight, and who knows more about AB than Paulie who actually studied him to fight him.

It seems like Paulie is over the blind hate towards AB and now has that feeling towards Powerhouse Porter since he believes he was cheated in that match

Broner showed enough footwork and ring generalship against Taylor to make me believe he could handle Matthysse imo, but he'd still have to sharpen up his defense. That left to the body he was throwing would have made Hatton proud.

Cunningham has been in his corner for quite a few fights & has been working with Broner for a few years now

the funny thing with berto is i didnt even see any of the virgil hunter "improvements" that i saw in khan and mares :russ:

nothing to indicate that Hunter even worked with the guy. The thing is Khan only works with Hunter for training camps, which irritates Hunter, because boxing is about repetition. This nygga Berto has been living in California & consistently going to the gym.

It seems like Paulie is over the blind hate towards AB and now has that feeling towards Powerhouse Porter since he believes he was cheated in that match

Broner contacted him after the Porter fight to check on him. The beef is over. It was business, nothing personal.

Broner is a true professional the way he sold that fight. You have guys that want to make more money & are always complaining, but don't put in the work to promote themselves.

Watching Matthysse post fight interview and he says he wants to fight Garcia first in a rematch then Adrien Broner. Says that Garcia had a "lot of luck" in the 1st fight and he deserves another opportunity to fight Garcia.

I don't think it was luck, just Garcia cracked him and Matthysse corner wasn't prepared to deal with the swelling. I thought Garcia earned that victory clean.

I don't think Garcia is scared of a guy he already beat. I just don't think Matthysse possesses the skill to beat Garcia. He comes forward with power and Garcia is a counter puncher with power. I think Garcia also can take Matthysse's power better than Matthysse can take Garcia's.

It would be a good rematch, but I thought Garcia won clearly the 1st time and think the only rematch that Garcia owes is to Herrera. Other than that, he has no more business at 140.

Broner isn't trash.......... but I don't consider him an elite 140 fighter either. Matthysse-Garcia is more interesting IMO, cause honestly, and I mean this with no harm........... Broner would lose clearly fighting Lucas Matthysse right now

If he and Peterson weren't friends I'd say that's the perfect fight for both men. As it stands, I'd favor neither in against anyone in the top 10 at 140 (courtesy of boxrec rankings, not my own... no way in hell do I have Peterson at #3 :heh: )
