Hopkins is a beast breh....he's officially passed Roy Jones on my all-time list after last night.

Yes, at their peaks, RJJ was better, but Hopkins is still whooping ass at fukking 49 years old and we dont show any signs of him even getting close to being washed up:damn:

For beating the vaunted Beibut Shumenov :shaq2: who appeared to have the skillset & athletic ability of a low level club fighter.
Impressive nonetheless to be able to do what he did at his age against someone who was consensusly rated in the top 10. Which is almost unprecedented.
But he looked like a shot mess against Dawson where he got whitewashed by like a 11-1/10-2 margin :heh: even though he made Dawson work for every round.

Most of his late career success can be attributed to a combination of favorable style matchups, a limited selection of quality opposition, even at the very top of the division. And of course, an abnormal level ring smarts & adaptability... but lettuce not pretend that he isn't a shot fighter, because he very much so IS.

If Roy was still able to make 175 he would be beating some of these guys as well (just keep him away from the punchers :whoa:)... lets not forget that Roy beat Lacy from pillar to post a few years ago and made him quit on his stool... Lacy isn't all that far apart skillwise from some of these current top 10 Light Heavyweights... maybe not the Kovalev's, Stevenson's & Pascals... but definitely on par with Shumenov, Cloud & Murat.

Another thing to keep in mind is that every KO loss that Roy has had post-04 has been at Cruiserweight.

Would Hopkins be able to be competitive with the equivalant of Shumenov/Murat/Cloud @ Cruiserweight? :patrice:

Roy just beat a 17-0 Cruiserweight not too long ago.

And although Hopkins is doing something right now that Roy and 99.9% of boxers in history hasn't been able to do.

Lettuce not pretend that Roy hasn't accomplished things in his career that B-Hop & 99.9% of boxers in history don't have the capability of doing either.

And you nikkas were calling me crazy when I was saying this a few months ago :mjpls:

On an all time list Bhop gets ranked higher :yeshrug:

I try not to get too crazy in arguments about my favorites because I know I'm biased but this is some shyt we aren't going to see again for a lonnnnnng time imo.

Roy still has the greater overall achievements and legacy :to:

Roy Jones aint beating Chad Dawson neither breh:camby:

And we seen what happened the last time they faced similar opponents. Hopkins fared MUCH better against Calzaghe (and some people gave him the victory) while Roy got his ass whooped by Calzaghe:mjpls:

Hopkins also TKO'd prime Glen Johnson and beat the hell outta Antonio Tarver:mjpls:

Like I said, at their very bests, RJJ is the better fighter. However, Hopkins longevity and still being a Unified Light Heavyweight Champion at 49 is ridiculous. Their is no way you can just try and down play it as you just tried to do.

Comparing Jeff Lacy to Beiburt Shumenov?:comeon:

Let's not forget that Jeff Lacy lost, by WIDE decision to bum ass Dhafir Smith who was 23-19-7 at the time, right after Lacy lost to RJJ.

One thing I noticed that Shumenov did that was working, that I feel Stevenson can do better and improve on is that up jab. Shumenov was jabbing to the spot where Hops likes to place his head at when he's throwing a punch. That shyt was working for like the 1st 3 or 4 rounds. It's just that dude doesn't move his head at all so Bernard was able to throw anything in that general direction and land clean just about every time. Shumenov also had a slow release on his right hand so he hardly ever landed solid with that shot.

Stevenson does the up jab too and has a much quicker release on his power hand (left).

Shumenov is a solid win, but it's nothing to me that's going to make Hop move past Roy in the atg rankings. A Stevenson win could be depending on how the fight goes, but I doubt it since Hop's ain't fare to well against the last southpaw that was really gunning for him.

Yep.

RJJ couldnt beat Adonis Stevenson if he wanted to these days. Roy hasnt beat a legitimate good fighter since his first fight with Antonio Tarver back in 2003.....back when he was 34. Bernard Hopkins is 49 and still beating Champions:ufdup:

Matter of fact, you wanna compare their careers since 2003 since they are both still fighting today?

William Joppy, Oscar De La Hoya, Antonio Tarver, Winky Wright, Kelly Pavlik, Jean Pascal, Tarvoris Cloud, Beibut Shumenov are all good wins on Hopkins resume from 2003-2014.....and he was already "old" at 38 in 2003:mjpls:

guys in here think bhop can beat stevenson :dwillhuh:

since he lost to dawson hes fought c+ opponents.

of course what hes doing at the age of 49 is crazy but he isnt going to beat stevenson or any real B level boxers

Breh, he's not SUPPOSED too.....that's the whole point:mindblown:

Since when has a 49 year old fighter been a Unified Champion?:dahell:

Bernard Hopkins shouldnt be beating ANYONE at 49 years old, let alone title holders. He's been past his physical prime, but he's still beating Champions at 175. That's amazing.

All-time includes now:ufdup:

You cant say "I have prime Roy beating all of them" when Roy cant beat them right now, while he's still fighting, but Hopkins can.

You just gonna put an imaginary cap on Roy's career and ignore all his fights past 34?:usure:

:camby:

To determine your place along the ATG's it takes into consideration your ENTIRE CAREER....not just you at your best. Hopkins career is better than Roy's and he has beat better fighters as well
