I don't get it why doesn't Loma just move back down to 130?

135 might be too much for him. This is what I see might happen for Inuoe if goes up to 126

hes able to be competitive at 135 thats why i never thought he should go back down..i mean he unified 3 belts there and scored some knockouts there

now 140 may test his physical limits

Kirkland let me down...he wasn't in Ann Wolfe trained shape on top of a long layoff...it was sad to watch

'If it's, ands and buts was candy, cherries and nuts then we'd all have a merry Christmas.' :salute:

Ann the god. Kirkland is so underrated to this day. He was lacking in that fight, but great power and such a risk taker in the ring.

To this day Canelo says he was his hardest/strongest opponent.

I'm not so sure tbh. Very big shots, they really stun opponents if they land.

Elite boxers rarely get landed on clean. Bivol has to play the counter-puncher. That would make Beterbiev either gun-shy or sell out which would leave himself open

IMO Bivol has 0 problems making it an ugly Unanimous decision fight

I like your optimism, and I don’t deny that Bivol is great defensively. But it’s also a size/power situation.

Look at Yarde, physically a big guy for 175, and those shots from Beterbiev in the latter rounds really knocked him around.

Sure, Yarde is not Bivol, but the point I’m making is that big shots add up, and Beterbiev has shown that they hurt bigger opponents as well.

You’re a good poster and you’re not one of these dudes on here that watch all the fights, but don’t really understand the sport. With that being said, Bivol is getting stopped.

You’re overrating Bivol’s defense and counter-punching ability and underrating AB’s ability.

Bivol is getting stopped.

Bivol is a good fighter, but he doesn’t have an extra gear to really beat a dude like AB. He’s also not this prime Sweet Pea/Mayweather/Willie Pep defensive genius that people are making him out to be.

He is also not a master counter puncher or something. He’s defensively sound, but he’s more so a “your turn then my turn” kinda fighter. That doesn’t mean he can’t hit you with a counter. He certainly can, but he’s not primarily a counter puncher or a master one. If you watch the fight with Canelo or even his last fight, he wasn’t really countering them like that. Canelo had plenty of opportunities when he came forward against Bivol. For whatever reason, his punches didn’t really affect Bivol and he decided to punch Bivol in the arm repeatedly.

Bivol’s good at stymieing people’s offense with his jab and by measuring distance. He’s not going to slip or duck a punch or punch with you and flip your tv off on some Crawford shyt. I think to beat AB you have to have the threat that you could really hurt him (which is why Yarde had some success)—because he’s going to hurt you. I don’t care how tough you are. It’s mofos on record saying fighting Beterbiev is like being in a car crash.

So, being that Bivol doesn’t have that sixth gear and his defense/counter punching ability is being overrated, I don’t see how he avoids taking serious punishment over 12. With that being said, the way he can win is he one of these iron will kinda fighters. If has that fighting spirit that you only find out about yourself in a real fight where you’re taking hella punishment, he doesn’t crumble, and he’s returning fire, he will have a chance. I’m beating he doesn’t have that, though. Because most men don’t—let alone fighters. It’s a very rare quality to possess. Whereas most men’s fighting spirit wanes as they take more and more punishment.

So what exactly is Beterbiev's abilities that will give Bivol problems?

I remember when he first came on the scene with the late Lou Duva. He was a force. But even then he was getting fropped.

His chin was always going to hold him back; Duva, Wolfe, etc. could never have prevented this. Reminds me of Ed Hopson and to a lesser degree Meldrick Taylor.

That's a fine assessment, I do think you're underselling Bivols offensive/defensive and distance evaluation skills/akward invert step a bit though.

Beterbiev is better than he's given credit (boxing wise), but he is open to the clean shot, he gets hit very very flush, usually in every fight. He's also never been in a firefight (professionally) with a similar skilled, high punch output opponent such as Bivol, in my humble opinion.

I can see Beterbiev getting waved off through relentless attack, just the same way I can see Bivol getting overwhelmed and beaten badly.

I don't see it as clear cut as you, sure Beterbiev is the bigger guy, and the old rule of two good boxers/bigger guy wins is usually true, but Beterbiev has various question marks around his defense against accurate volume punchers and could he be a bully that falls apart when it gets flipped? Probably not, but maybe.

Aye he can beat AB off that alone, Bivol will just need to avoid taking an accumilation of Big shots, that will be the chess match, him just being able to counter punch and be responsible defensively would just be more AB would have to deal with on that board. AB will have to get to Bivol early imo and set the tone. Bivol toy'd with Canelo that wasn't a very good example.
