The Takeover
This might be my favorite boxing movie ever
This might be my favorite boxing movie ever
i remember like it was yesterday. i watched it in my boys dorm..winky and mormeck on the undercard...oquendo was losing to mo harris when he karate chopped/ rabbit punched this nikka and put him OUT..mo harris never recovered any momentum after..roy was masterful...i hated john ruiz manRemember this like yesterday. Roy's last 'great' performance even though him gutting out that first Tarver fight was very impressive & on the same level to me. If he would've stayed at HW or just retired....
I remember thinking that he could give it one last hurrah nectar by this time it was widely known that Macho was sometimes undisciplined...
i mean only like 2 ppl picked salido to win...and im one of them lolCuzz came in 80 lbs overweight on done Chavez Jr shyt and just muscled Loma around the ring. Loma had no answers.
Didn't Salido get arrested for stealing beer?
the 4th fight was one of the few times i couldnt even be a bloodthirsty ghoul even if i wanted...it was downright criminal..marquez just happened to be slightly less finished than vazquez, who was completely finished..then marquez after would proceed to be knocked out by anybody considered a live body..while vazquez lost an eye...vicious fights manIf they had stopped after 3, I would have that as the best trilogy ever for consistent action and close competition. All 3 fights were excellent.
bhop doesnt complain about losing that first fight...he knows he got schooled with one hand...toney, hill...he had some other good wins like reggie johnson, merqui sosa, tarver of course, montell griffin, old mike mccallum...id replace bryant brannon with thomas tate....tate is the only guy to go 12 with julian jackson and roy put him out in 2...only time he was stopped2 of the top 3 wins are James Toney and John Ruiz. The 3rd? Maybe beating Bernard Hopkins? Both guys were still relatively green. Gutting out a tough win over Antonio Tarver in the first fight? Virgil Hill body shot?
I thought him at his peak might have been Bryant Brannon. Not one of his best wins due to opposition level, but just in terms of best performance. It was like his version of Muhammad Ali-Cleveland Williams.
