I just checked the ticket seats and 80% is waaay more than what I'm seeing available. Looks more like 25% are unsold to me. Still this fight shoulda been in Houston if it wasn't gonna be in NY or Vegas, even Dallas.
Figures. But yeah imo this shoulda been on the same card as his brother but i assume their beef got in the way of that. The rumor was floating for a min this woulda been at barclays but like i said them numbers probably didnt add up and the undercard isnt strong enough to justify it.

PBC should of had the Charlo's fighting on Spence's undercards since the Mikey fight. All them highlight reel KO's Jermell has woulda got him a lot of exposure if he was fighting on Spence's undercards.

As good as the PBC is doing for Spence they are failing the Charlo's.

which is crazy because the Charlos have exciting fights, are flashy, and talk spicy which tends to = casuals tuning in.

mell becoming undisputed on Juneteenth would have been big too

Agreed. That would have been a good look.
I was reading Fischer mailbag yesterday and he was basically saying Mell should have been where he's at now, back in 2013. Said it took too long for dude to finally fight for a title. He was trying to justify why Mell wasn't on the P4P list. Even though I disagree and still feel that Mell should be on p4p lists, I understood and could see his point, especially with the number of fights Mell has under his belt.

For some reason these promoters like to pick and choose who's profile to raise along with their bigger stars. Always wondered why Hearn didn't put Andrade on some of them Joshua undercards, instead dude gets his own date at some random ass location.

Vergil Ortiz-Egidijus Kavaliauskas Formally Announced For August 14 In Frisco, Texas

Published Tue Jul 13, 2021, 10:05 AM EDT

Another night, another hometown headliner and step-up in class for Vergil Ortiz Jr.

In what has become a familiar theme in his rise to contention, the toughest test to date awaits the unbeaten knockout artist from Grand Prairie, Texas. As previously reported by BoxingScene.com, Ortiz (17-0, 17KOs) will next face former title challenger Egidijus “Mean Machine” Kavaliauskas, with their welterweight bout due to take place August 14 on DAZN from Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas.

The bout was confirmed by Golden Boy Promotions who formally announced the event Tuesday morning.

“Vergil Ortiz Jr. is developing the most impressive resume for any boxer his age,” said Oscar De La Hoya, chairman and CEO of Golden Boy Promotions. “Though the welterweight division is perhaps the most competitive weight class in the sport, Ortiz Jr. has been able to maintain a knockout ratio of 100% in his big tests against Antonio Orozco, Brad Solomon and Maurice Hooker.

“On August 14, Ortiz Jr. will look better than ever and remind everyone why he is the biggest threat at 147 pounds.”

Ortiz sought to send that message in his last outing, a seventh-round stoppage of former junior welterweight titlist Maurice Hooker. The battle of local, friendly rivals took place this past March 20 in front of a packed crowd at dikkies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. Hooker tested Ortiz as advertised, before the 23-year-old twice dropped the Dallas native en route to maintaining his perfect knockout-to-win ratio.

The win came in the presence of welterweight royalty. WBO titlist Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford is a stablemate of Hooker and made the trip in support of the former titlist while also in part to scout Ortiz. Also on site was WBC/IBF titlist Errol Spence Jr. (27-0, 21KOs), who next faces the legendary Manny Pacquiao (62-7-2, 39KOs) on August 21.

Both are stated targets of Ortiz, who is willing to continue to push himself in terms of facing the best of the rest in the division.

“I always said I’m here to take on the toughest challenges to prove myself,” insists Ortiz, BoxingScene.com’s 2019 Prospect of the Year. “Egis is a very game, strong opponent, and a win over him would leave no doubts that I’m ready for a world title fight immediately.

“It won’t be easy, but that’s the point. The fans are going to enjoy this one.”

The fight comes about due to Kavaliauskas’ willingness to rise to the occasion at a time when several other welterweights looked the other way. The two-time Olympian for Lithuania has proven himself as a bubble contender in the stacked welterweight division, with his lone loss coming in a ninth-round stoppage at the hands of Crawford in their December 2019 WBO welterweight title fight.

Kavaliauskas has since rebounded with an eighth-round stoppage of Michael Zewski last September in his last fight with Top Rank. The 33-year-oid contender—who is guided by multi-time Manager of the Year Egis Klimas—now aims to ruin the hometown celebration planned for Ortiz along with any plans for his younger foe to sprint toward the title picture.

“Fans have been asking for this fight, and we’re going to give it to them,” saidKavaliauskas. “So, mark your calendar and have your popcorn ready. A war is coming.”

Jermell's career has been held up largely because Andrade backed out of their fight all those years ago. That was gonna be both fighters breakout fight. When Andrade backed out, Jermell had to start all over at square one. Not to mention his issues with fishnets when they were signed to Golden Boy. It's amazing he has brought his career back like this, but it sucks it took until he was 31 to get this type of fight.

The thurman stuff has legs? I thought it was just random youtube dudes talking it?

IMO Bud should be trying to get that belt. IF Ugas loses to Thurman, and Spence wants the belt that means Spence went through Porter, Danny, Pac, Thurman to get 4 belts (IBF,WBA,WBC, Ring) while Bud has been fighting Herbalife sales reps lmfao man hell nah

breh it's crazy folks dont put respect on Spence and Mell Charlo name. :dahell:

mell might make history this week and nobody cares
Spence about to get that torch passed and folks still sleep on him.

breh i wont lie when I went to the Canelo vs BJS fight i felt some kinda way that everyone aint behind these dudes. Tank the only one getting love, and I get it from a casual standpoint but man. I assume cause Spence and Mell arent in Floyds shadow this is the case
They not trying to market themselves. Floyd gave black fighters the blueprint but they still wanna be liked :mjlol:

mell got ring side with the lions but i think he need to hire a legit PR firm. He could do more having his gym and merch stuff too
Mell messed up sided with fury instead of wilder
Black fighters have to understand that boxing is about race first. Use the hate for the advantage.
If broner was undefeated, he would be a mega superstar, probably bigger than Floyd.
