Random thoughts.
Low key this week has been big for boxing.
Safe to say this Floyd stuff and Canelo/BJS is the biggest news in sports at the moment which is rare for boxing. 70k in attendance is a great look as well. Biggest crowd in the US since the pandemic and apparently it’s the biggest crowd in boxing history on US soil.
It’s crazy how everything seemed so dead on Monday.
With those new analytics saying Boxing is top 4 with Gen Z and millennials , the networks have to be looking to re-up with more $ as well.
TR and PBC have no more excuses now. Let’s just put on great fights already (with the big names, because SHO’s schedule is pretty good for hardcores). I don’t want to see Shakur or Inoue or Jermall Charlo in these one sided fights anymore, it’s over for that sh!t.
There was a ton of momentum for boxing right before the pandemic and during Wilder Fury 2. The pandemic literally put a halt to that (PBC lost shoulder programming on FOX etc.). TR put on a horrendous schedule to start and FOX as well. We had some glimmer of light with the Tank PPV, Loma/Lopez and the Garcia/Campbell fight..yet it wasn’t enough.
It feels like that momentum is back right now.
TR and PBC need to come together and announce some type of Welterweight schedule/mini tournament that strategically leads into Bud/Spence during superbowl weekend in 2022. Maybe something like Spence/Ugas, Bud/Porter, Thurman/James, Pac/Garcia.
You can have any of the Bud fights as joint PPVs with ESPN and FOX (this has been done).
