That rumour was outed as being complete bs.

Canelo is going to take one look at how much attention Andy Ruiz is going to get for his PPV fight and finally realize how much his brand has tanked over the last 3 years.

Ruiz is going to get the 3 part Fight Camp and also the Countdown on main FOX leading up to the PPV. That is 3 weekends of a training camp episode on a channel where you can just turn on the tv. The Wilder and Spence ones have done great numbers and it helps with exposure. Ruiz will get more airtime than Canelo has received on regular tv than the last 3 years combined, maybe ever.

Even Canelo’s brother got more shine on national TV than Canelo has over the last couple of years. Man had a PBC Countdown for the Lara fight in 2019.

I like the concept of DAZN, but the reality is it’s just not healthy for the long term growth of Boxing in North America. Nobody knows it exists outside of hardcores.

Dunno breh I read it on multiple places, but it's not like they would close shop had FOX stop woring with them, as I said they might as well go to a platform where there's another big promoter and then cross-promotion fights would be easier to make. Who knows...

Anyway on DAZN... I see your point but at the same time it's hard to deny that streaming is the future of sports too, just like how movies moved to streaming platforms, so I think it is planned to bare fruits long term, not in a year or so.

Cord cutting is a thing and it ain't gonna stop. TVs are dope cause you can watch stuff on a big screen, I think smart TVs definitely stay in the long term but the channels...? They probably will die a slow death.
DAZN supposedly has 8 million subscribers worldwide and they doubled from last year, ESPN + also grew a lot, there's definitely an interest for these streaming apps and an advantage they (currently only DAZN doing it as far as I know but maybe ESPN + too just only in the Americas) have is that they can more easily expand to different territories, different parts of the world.

If you look at the social media activity of the big 3 boxing universes (PBC on FOX, PBC, Showtime Boxing, Top Rank, ESPN Ringside, DAZN Boxing, etc.) you'll see that DAZN has the best numbers both in average engagement and in number of followers which kind of shows the point. They didn't limit themselves to one market and they try to cover the whole sport not only serve as a marketing surface for their guys. Obviously it helps that almost the entire DAZN USA dedicated to boxing and they have tons of shoulder programming and boxing themes talk shows and such but the results start to show.

Doesn't mean they can't fukk it up anymore, but they have the boxing social media game popping

Putting the big stars behind an app that's fairly new might not enhance their visibility to non-fans but I'd argue neither does putting mediocre fights behind a PPV paywall. The ideal would be actually good fights that make people come back to be put on free TV but we see that's rarely happening because the inflated purses in which DAZN (Matchroom mostly), PBC and Top Rank all share the blame.

this is nothing but real talk

Canelo's brother may fight on FOX but even the most pom pom waving Canelo stan would go :scust: at the mention of his brother fighting. His brother is a jobber. Man couldn't even beat a shot to pieces Margarito and Brandon Rios talking about a bigger profile than Canelo lately or a raised profile in general...nah thats a lot of BS there :heh:

and they are share the blame with the purses

PBC ruined an actual generation of fighters with that and the matchmaking
DAZN spent a lot of money and didnt grow its stable in the way should or could have for the complete ROI
TR is not spending money and is content on letting Social Media apps win purse bids for the top level fighters

all messed up
