Adrien Broner: I Get Nothing Out Of Fighting Regis Prograis At This Point

Adrien Broner doesn’t appear nearly as interested in fighting Regis Prograis as Prograis is in boxing Broner.
The four-division champion called Prograis “a clown” for predicting he’d become the first fighter to knock out Broner. He also told Showtime’s Brian Custer during a recent episode of his “Last Stand Podcast” that he doesn’t see any immediate need to face Prograis.

New Orleans’ Prograis wants to battle Broner in his next fight, assuming Cincinnati’s Broner wins February 20 against a junior welterweight to be determined in a “Showtime Championship Boxing” main event.
“He’s a good kid,” Broner told Custer in reference to Prograis. “He could fight. Southpaw. But, you know, at this point, you know, I get nothing out of fighting Regis at this point. Like I told him and some of his people – we talk, like Mack Maine from YCMB, Young Money. You know what I mean? They from New Orleans or whatever. So, me and Mack Maine talk sh-t and I tell him all the time, ‘I’m gonna f--k Regis up.’ You know what I mean? But it’s all love.
“You know, I love Mack Maine and I actually got love for Regis. You know, any time he fight, I hope he win. And, you know, like I told him, man, you know, just focus on your career, you know, try to go win another world title, keep building your name and we can make a mega-fight. It’ll be a big fight. I’ll f--k him up. I’ll f--k buddy up, though.”
The 31-year-old Broner (33-4-1, 24 KOs, 1 NC) hasn’t boxed in two years, not since Filipino legend Manny Pacquiao (62-7-2, 39 KOs) comfortably beat him by unanimous decision in their 12-round WBA welterweight title fight in January 2019 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Prograis (25-1, 21 KOs) defeated Juan Heraldez (16-1-1, 10 KOs) by third-round technical knockout in his most recent action, October 31 at Alamodome in San Antonio.
Prograis pushed the idea of a Broner bout during the post-fight press conference following his easy victory over Heraldez.
“I think that’s a huge fight,” Prograis said. “I think for me, that’s a huge fight. Now you can say we’re like stablemates now [with Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions], so I think that’s a huge fight, man. If me and Adrien Broner fight at 140, that’s the biggest fight you can make at 140. Whatever champion you have in any organization, if me and him fight for nothing, for no type of belts or nothing like that, that’s gonna be the biggest fight.
“You can put that on pay-per-view, and that’s gonna be the biggest fight, simply because of our personalities, we all know the same people and, you know, both of us like to talk a lot of sh-t and, you know, we’re entertainers, basically. So, I think that that’ll be a huge fight and now I think it actually – I’ve been wanting that fight for like years now. But I think now, it can really come to fruition now.”
