According to TMZ Sports, former unified light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev pled guilty on Friday in a criminal case which stemmed from an alleged assault on a woman and dog in 2018.
The boxer will now find himself on probation for the next three years.
Kovalev was alleged to have punching Jamie Frontz in Big Bear, Calif. back in June of 2018. The two had met earlier in the night at a local party and went back to her cabin, where she claims the boxer erupted after she rejected his sexual advances.
She alleges that the two of them began to kiss, but she pulled away when the boxer became too aggressive.
Upon pulling away, she states that boxer punched her in the face and kicked her dog.
She told TMZ Sports, and other outlets, that Kovalev's punch caused a broken nose, a concussion and facial lacerations.
The 37-year-old Kovalev was eventually arrested and hit with a felony assault charge.
After heavy negotiations, the boxer cut a deal with prosecutors to have the felony charge dropped.
Instead, he pled guilty to misdemeanor fighting/noise/offensive words and received the sentence of three years probation.
Kovalev was also ordered to serve a two day jail sentence, but he received credit for time served.
Additionally, Kovalev must attend/complete an anger management program and pay $220 in court fees.
While the criminal case is now done, Kovalev is still being sued by Frontz in civil court. The two sides had a reached an agreement where Kovalev was set to pay her $650,000. She claims the boxer had stopped making payments and filed litigation to secure the rest of the money.
