You know what, I think AJ vs Wilder is Lewis vs Bowe all over again smh. As much criticism as Bowe got he never really suffered because he fought Holyfield 3 times and always had big fights ala AJ. AJ can always go back home and sell out and defend the belts he has without ever fighting Wilder. Eventually he’ll lose to a mandatory and Wilder will get his chance but with AJ saying even after Ruiz he’s not even going to look at Wilder it’s now a wrap and fans need to get over it.
Was AJ who turned down a 120m offer?
I'm still at a loss how ppl blame Joshua for that situation when after a very carefully built up record Wilder at 32 with 39 fights behind him finally decided to seek out the meaningful fights and anybody who not obliged ASAP was a ducker then even though he was the one who only fought one top 10 rated opponent on his resume (after 7 title fights, the one where he won the title was that one).
It's not like Lewis vs Bowe, Bowe straight up trashed his belt there, Wilder had an offer in front of him for 120 million to fight Breazeale then 2 AJ fights. He chose to not accept it. It was on the table.
Even though Joshua lost to Ruiz what nobody expected, the worst-case scenario for Wilder would have been fighting Breazeale for 20 million and then fight someone else until AJ and Ruiz sort is out.
Look... to me it seems like ESPN is kinda the "middle man" here, they can work out big fights both with PBC and DAZN, DAZN and PBC can't/won't, one of them is strictly TV the other one is strictly internet so it won't happen until one of the starfighters accept an offer from the other side to make the fight or some exchange deal between them. They can't do a co-PPV or anything.
Loyalty is nice until it results in fights not being made. I don't know if they are contractually tied or not. If they are that could be a reason why they turn down offers like that but Wilder, for example, is a free agent if we ca believe that to him.
