Our definitions for gimmies differ.
My definition of a gimmie is...Someone that doesn't have a punchers chance in a fight. If a guy can't ko you or even hurt you, he has to rely on pure boxing to win and thats usually the harder thing to do when you're the B side and don't have above average power or amazing speed.
Guys like Herrera and Trout for as skilled as they are, are more of a gimmie since they rarely get the benefit of the doubt in close fights so if you just fight them even, you can prolly get the decision. They not knocking you out. I wouldn't call them gimmies tho, but they were looked at that way too. Hell, moreso than guys like Prov and Molina who can crack so you can't sleep on them.
Rios and Cassamayor at those times couldn't knock you out or out box you. If you showed up and half assed if you'd still clearly win. You do that against the Molinas and Provs and Joe Smith's etc...and you might get stopped. You half ass it against Trout or Herrera and your promoter just calls in a favor unless the shellacking is just too obviously dominant to rob. Gimmies aren't supposed to have any chance of winning or even losing the decision and winning the event. Gimmies are even worse than cherry picks, cuz cherry picks can go wrong. Only way you lose to a gimmie is if you become injured in some freak accident, or you become instantly shot and can't fight for shyt.
Truax is the pure definition of a gimmie. Nobody decent was ever expected to lose to a prime version of him, but then again.
