Casamayor
Rigo
Gamboa
Lara

are the only Cuban boxers we've had in the pros recently that were worth a damn and only 2 of those names are HOF quality.

Lara got all them skills, but letting Molina put consistent hands on him. :hhh:
Dorticos doing alright :yeshrug: Ugas too
Ortiz was doing good too even though he hasn't really beaten a murderers row

true but for guys who have medals in world amateur championships (cept dorticos) one would be hoping for more tbh:francis:
Maybe dorticos can do it vs breidis but I got my money on the latter :francis:

Alright aint good enough for all the fukking hype them nikkas get and that's my whole point.

nikkas is struggling to have a better career than guys like Berto and Chris John. :mjlol:

Gamboa was the most disappointing for me. He had all the damn tools. Hell you see that dude fight night champion rating? At the time I wouldn't have argued against it. But he fukked up royally. Domestic abuse cases and his promo cafuffle.

What fukked up Gamoba career was never landing that JuanMa fight. Dude definitely had momentum and fans buzzing. Fans used to look toward his FNF dates. Cats like Gamboa n Kirkland, you gotta give them they shots early or right as they peak, because if you don't, their outside the ring fukkery will eventually take over. Gamboa was never meant to be a boxer that gets a belt and just collects a bunch of title defenses. He too hot or cold at times. Put him in with the big dogs and see what happens.

By the time he got his big moment, it was against a guy all wrong for him in Crawford and you can tell he was being used as a springboard for his career.

tbf though they rarely turn pro young and it must be hard with all the distractions and liberties when they get out of Cuba
I think there's lots of potential in the Cuban boxing scene but it won't necessarily come out until they can finally turn pro legally

fukking excuses
nikkas got problems all over the world. They not the first to come into a lil money. Them nikkas just aint that good and they living off of amateur hype that only a small fraction deliver on.

Mexican school of Boxing, Michigan school of boxing, Puerto Rico school of boxing, Florida school of boxing >>>>>>Cuban school of boxing.

Nah I disagree with that we don’t have a big enough sample size of top Cubans turned pro young enough. Rigo was almost 33 when he washed Donaire, Ortiz gave Wilder all he could handle at 38 (or older) imagine if he's just 5 years younger.
Lara and Gamboa turned pro when they were 25-26 which is ok but still not the usual, Lara had a pretty good career too and Gamboa unfortunately spiralled out and made bad career decisions like signing with 50 Cent.

I maintain that there would be a lot more Cuban success could they turn pro legally in their early 20s like boxers from other countries can. Most of the Cuban fighters stay in Cuba being amateurs in all their career I think comparative to their small number in pro boxing they made a lot of noise in this decade wheh more of them turned pro than the decades before (I mean after the 50s-60s or so).
I get that you are irritated by the hype but they are still good.
Actually from the schools you listed PR and Michigan does worse than Cuba in these last few years or so even though all of their fighters are free to turn pro so they can represent themselves in greater numbers.

Who's really out there from Michigan now? Tony Harrison and Anthony Dirrell?
How many (US) fighters making noise from Florida right now? Thurman, Lubin, and...?
From PR? Acosta, Pedraza, Dulorme, Machado, Matias...?

Cuba's Rigo, Dorticos, Ortiz, Ugas, Lara, Barrera outmatches any of those other groups I listed all that while Cuba has 46 registered pro and PR has 219 so almost 5X as much. Can't find how many registered boxers Michigan or Florida have but I guess it's more than 46 too.
