Shawn Porter trains hard.

So either this weight fiasco was a one off (shyt happens), or it may be time to move on.

If it's time for him to move on, it puts him at a tough spot. There's still some money to be made at 147 for him.
What do you move on like go back up to 154 or Diddy Daddy Porter? Only ask cause I thought him and his Pops called it quits in regard to training.

Very layered question. But I’ll take a stab...

I think in a sport such as Boxing, fans who follow it daily like us, some feel a pride or sense of loyalty since it can be argued it’s a cult type of sport this day and age. We also expect and already assume how promoters are snakes and disloyal but get shocked when a fighter jumps ship or leaves looking for their better interest. I feel like other than individual sports, these boxers have a sense of individuality that other sports don’t... and we tend to forget these guys have teams and advisors who are constantly in their ear trying to tell said fighter what’s their best option.

Hate to bring race into but it’s like PBC-Haymon have a stanbase of brothers who feel if a black fighter leaves to Top Rank, MatchRoom , now DAZN that they’re to some degree selling out when the fact of the matter is it’s essentially just an NBA free agent leaving to a different team who pitches their best offer with obviously money, opportunity and future plans..

I assume this question is tied into Wilder and I always thought he was a PBC through and through , I never knew he was “independent” until it was posted in here the other day.. it’s just weird to me that it seems like the only way for this AJ/Deontay fight to happen is if Wilder signs with DAZN

That's a well articulated answer, yes it came into my mind (again) because of Wilder now but I've been thinking about this before too
It's more prevalent in team sports though cause there the teams are institutions with history and lots of emotional investment from fans and more tribalism.

Problem is he'd lose one of his important edges at 154.
At 147 he's a big, physically strong dude who can rough anyone up barring from a few.
If you look at it there's a big change in the size of top guys between 147 and 154. Spence is a big ass 147er but he wouldn't be among the bigger dudes in 154. 154 has some big mfers like Hurd, Charlo or Munguia. Porter couldn't outmuscle and rough them up the same way.

What do you think happens with Wilder? I assume him and Brezeale still are gonna fight, and though the personal issues( jabs below the belt about family shyt) add to the fight , it’s certainly not PPV worthy. It’s actually very smart if the rumors are true about him going to DAZN before that fight cause that Being a PPV will knock his outright value down when those numbers come back. Someone that he truly listens to should really try to force him to tell Showtime to just make it a Saturday Night Main Event on SHO as opposed to a fukken PPV with Brezeale as his opponent..

And he’s 5’6.. Hurd, Charlo, Munguias are all 5’10 or higher, his reach disadvantage is gonna be such a detriment...he’s not gonna be able to maul and brawl any of the top guys at Junior Middleweight/Super Welter . He’s strong and a tank but he’s food at 154.

Move up back up to 154, and be extremely smart about his matchmaking.

He should take the Tim Bradley approach. When Bradley moved up to 147, damn near all his opponents were small WW's that started in lower weight classes. TR was smart never to match him up with a big WW.

Like I said, he better just hope this is a one off type of situation.

Someone in here I think it was @Skip b said that Keith Thurman would make an impact at 154, as A Thurminator I just don’t see it. I saw an interview with Danny saying he’s thinking about it but, his increasingly Gunshy self just doesn’t seem like he’s gonna fight anymore for long.

I can see Spence going all the way up to 160 and even though he’s a little small for it, Bud Crawford May be able to take some fights at 154 following that Bradley blueprint you mentioned.

think some of you all are a bit confused about PBC.
PBC is a tv show, series, Al Haymon is a manager, not a promoter.
PBC is affiliated with different promotions though.
Wilder signing with DAZN wouldn't change his management status with Haymon, and if they give him a good deal, Haymon as a manager would support it.

AS a boxing fan, I've never looked down at a fighter leaving management or promoter, this isn't a team sport and ultimately its all about what is best for a fighter.
I do get angry when I think a fighter is making poor management choices though, for his career, but I've never met many people iwho follow the sport and get mad because a fighter changed promoter. That just isn't really a thing in this sport until recently when a lot of the white supremacists came out the wood work in attacking Haymon

Nope already making videos congratulating him

:deadmanny: That's why I can't take them nikkas seriously. Back when Matchroom signed that deal with DAZN, all of them were shytting on the app and refusing to pay or watch fights on it. When PBC signed with Fox, it was the early deathblow to DAZN. Now that Wilder has a chance to get that bag its :myman::ohlawd:

I honestly can see Crawford being undisputed at 147 someday, without having to face any of the top PBC guys. He's basically maxed out at 147, with perhaps the choice to fight at 154 if he chooses to.

I can see the other champs at 147 outgrowing the division before these unification fights can materialize.

Look at Porter. A unification is around the corner and this weight thing comes up. It's probably always been a grind to make weight, but the body can only take so much.

It isnt. He has been struggling to make 147 for like 3-4 fights now. 154 is almost for certain that he will be going back.

I think if the DAZN talks end satisfactory for both parties they might make the Breazeale fight on DAZN (afterall WBC ordered it already so guess there's no way back) and then make AJ vs Wilder 1 and 2
